Acer rolls out new touch-enabled products running Windows 8
Microsoft may be brewing up a
bit of controversy with its Metro interface for Windows 8
, but that train has already left the station and there's no stopping it. With Computex 2012 getting underway in Taipei, Taiwan, hardware manufacturers are already showing off their latest products that run Windows 8.
Acer is plowing forward with three distinct product lines running Windows 8; the first of which are brand new touch screen-based all-in-one desktop PCs. The Aspire 7600U is a 27-inch machine that is capable of 64-point, simultaneous touch. It is 35mm thick and includes a 1080p display and Dolby Home Theater surround sound.

The Aspire 5600U is its 23-inch counterpart and is said to be the thinnest all-in-one PC available. It too brings with it a 1080p display and Dolby Home Theater surround sound.
Stepping into the mobile sector, Acer also announced the new 11.6" and 13.3" Aspire S7 touchscreen ultrabooks . Acer is being rather mum on hardware specs (processor/memory/storage/etc.) for the time being, but it is known that both models have screen resolutions of 1920x1080. Seeing as how most notebooks in the 13.3" and under class seem to get the shaft when it comes to high-resolution displays, it's nice to see Acer push the segment forward.

Acer says that the Aspire S7 ultrabooks are the thinnest and smallest in their respective size classes and both feature an aluminum unibody design. Other features include a light-sensing keyboard, Acer's Twin Air cooling system, and relatively long battery life (9 hours for the 11.6" model, 12 hours for the 13.3" model).
And last but now least; Acer is continuing the 1080p theme today with the introduction of the 11.6" Iconia W700 tablet. The $999 Iconia W700 features a 11.6" 1080p display, Dolby Home Theater sound, three USB 3.0 ports, and comes with a multipurpose cradle that can be tilted up to 70 degrees.

The final piece to Acer's Computex puzzle is the $799 Iconia W510 tablet that comes with a 10.1" display (the screen resolution is unknown at this point). It can be used as a traditional tablet or paired with a keyboard dock that boosts battery life to an impressive 18 hours.

Win 8 tablet + keybaord dock = ultimate device

I know there will be atleast
Win 8 tablets with keyboard docks this year. Will be interesting to see what else is coming.
Cant wait to have a tablet that is the only thing i have to take with me being as it has a fully capable OS. All Win 8 tablets are required to have USB 3.0 as well. Apparently most of them will also have HDMI, so once i get home i can just connect it to my 30" 2560x1600 monitor, then connect a keyboard and mouse with bluetooth, switch over to desktop mode and i have a full PC for work :)
I'll also installing 8 on my desktop though because this OS just flies. The Release Preview is even faster than the Consumer Preview. Easily more responsive/faster than Win 7 and miles ahead of Vista, with lower RAM usage than both.
BTW heres some of the more interesting requirements for Win 8 tablets...
Required hardware buttons on all Win 8 tablets:
Minimum component set for tablets and convertible PCs:
•Storage: At least 10gb free space after the out-of-box experience completes
•System firmware: UEFI
•Networking: WLAN and Bluetooth 4.0 + LE (low energy)
•Graphics: Direct3D 10 device w/ WDDM 1.2 driver
•Touch support: At least 5 touch points, must pass all tests
•Camera: atleast 720p
•Under 2 second resume
•A proper headphone jack (standard-issue 3.5mm)
•No reboot driver upgrades
•Ambient Light Sensor: 1-30k lux capable w/ dynamic range of 5-60K
•Accelerometer: 3 axes w/ data rates >= 50Hz
•USB 3.0: At least one controller and exposed port
•Windows RT devices must not exceed a surface temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 Celsius). (Not sure about x86).
Backlight power optimization:
Laptops and devices must now support the adjustment of backlight power consumption based on new cues from Windows 8.
For example, if you’re viewing photos or typing a document, the backlight will remain bright and optimized for readability. But when watching a movie or playing video game, tasks with lots of motion, the backlight should dim a bit and instead opt for enhancing pixel colors as a smart power saving alternative. Your PC will anticipate what you’ll do next and adapt.
