Microsoft will soon release a $99
Xbox 360 bundle
that includes the console and a monthly Xbox Live subscription.
The new bundle consists of a 4GB Xbox 360 console, a Kinect sensor, and a two-year Xbox Live Gold service subscription.
The only catch is that there's a $15 monthly fee for the service. Gamers can receive the regular online gameplay features of an Xbox Live Gold subscription along with extra content from cable providers.
The total cost of the two-year bundle is $459, which is a bit of a hike from the current $418 4GB Xbox 360 and Kinect bundle with two years of
Microsoft will charge an early termination fee to those who decide to cut the service before the two years are up. The exact amount of the fee is unclear at this point.
Microsoft is looking to change the way people consume entertainment via its Xbox 360 console and Xbox Live services. With the tech giant working on a music service called Woodstock, and with video services becoming increasingly popular, creating a bundle that provides such content via its Xbox hardware seemed like a smart way to boost Xbox sales and attract customers to its latest services. Customers will just have to decide whether the extra $15 monthly cost is worth it.
The bundle is expected to launch as early as next week.

Yeah... I think I'm done with consoles for while.
I used to be big into PC gaming starting with the DOS days all the way up to Unreal Tournament 2004. I had numerous affairs with each console - NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, Saturn, Dreamcast - but after UT2004 I was spending a lot more time on consoles. Halo LAN parties were so much fun - moreso than PC LAN parties mostly due to ease of setup... then Ninja Gaiden absorbed me a good long while. I was an avid XBConnect user before joining the Xbox Live beta and been on Live ever since...
However, over the past year I've been buying games off Steam faster than I can play them. $5 for real AAA titles on sale that play better with more options (and modding) while the console versions are $20 used. Then there's the whole direction consoles are going with digital distribution and used copy lockouts/DLC codes... I don't want any part of it. Right now, Steam gives me the freedom to play what I want on the device I want for the price I want.
If Steam follows the direction of consoles with DRM and grotesque sales tactics, then I will just have to dust off the ol' 14" CRT, fire up UT99, and grab some M-M-M-MONSTER KILLS! KILLS! Kills! kills...
