Kutcher will not play Jobs in Sony's movie about Steve Jobs, which is based on Walter Isaacson's book

American actor Ashton Kutcher will take on the role of former Apple CEO Steve Jobs in a new film about the late creator of Apple according to Variety.

The movie, called "Jobs," will be an indie film about Jobs' life from his free-spirited, hippie days to the time which he co-founded Apple with Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne. It's currently unclear if the movie will chronicle Jobs' life beyond the founding of Apple.

The film will be directed by Joshua Michael Stern, who is best known for directing Disney's 2008 comedy "Swing Vote." The script for "Jobs" was written by Matt Whiteley.

Kutcher, who is Best known for roles such as Michael Kelso in "That 70's Show" and Walden Schmidt in his latest sitcom role "Two and a Half Men," will become Jobs in May when filming begins. This is also when "Two and a Half Men" will take a break, allowing Kutcher to spend more time on the role.

With Jobs' passing on October 5, 2011, films depicting his life were inevitable. In addition to Stern's movie about Jobs' life, Sony Pictures is working on a film of its own, which is based on Walter Isaacson's book titled "Steve Jobs." Kutcher will not be playing Jobs in Sony's film.

Jobs co-founded Apple with Wozniak and Wayne in 1976, and ended up leaving the company in 1985 after losing a power struggle with the board of directors. He then founded computer platform development company NeXT and co-founded computer animation film studio Pixar.

He later returned to Apple as interim CEO in 1997, rescuing the company from near bankruptcy. Jobs introduced revolutionary products like the iPod, iPhone and iPad during his time as Apple's CEO. He later stepped down as CEO in August 2011 due to health complications associated with pancreatic cancer, and passed away on October 5.

He sounds like the perfect actor to play Steve Jobs.
