Does your new iPad get too hot?
Apple's iPad has been around for two years, and a third version of the tablet only recently went on sale. There have been some users complain with each generation of the iPad that the tablet overheats, or gets too hot. Some users already complain that the new iPad gets too hot in certain areas. As of now, this doesn't appear to be a widespread problem.
Like many things, "too hot" is open to interpretation. What's too hot to some users may not be an issue at all for others. Some reports from users claiming their new iPad is too hot point the corner of the unit as a location for the hotspot. At least one user reports that the iPad shut down during use a gave a message that said, "the iPad needs to cool down."
One important point from the user reporting that the iPad shut down and gave a warning message is that the user admits to using the tablet in direct sunlight at the time it shut down. It would be no surprise if the new iPad gets hot in use since it has a faster processor than previous models and larger battery. With only a few complaints so far of the tablet getting excessively hot, it's far too early to call this an issue.
An Apple store worker from a suburban Los Angeles location attributes the fact that the new iPad gets warmer than the iPad 2 specifically to the larger battery. The iPad temperature range according to the specification page ranges from 32° to 95°F. That would certainly feel warm to the touch.
