NVIDIA's design guide supplement for the platform that does not exist
The first rule about "Tritium" is, you do not talk about "Tritium"

NVIDIA's Bryan Del Rizzo sent me the following email earlier today about some of the stories we've run on the NVIDIA Tritium platform:

Kris, yet another story with gross inaccuracies.
There is no Tritium certification process. There is no Tritium product. It is not a brand name.
Because of your story, we have partners asking us about a certification process that doesn't exist.
Please remove the story or put up a front page story that says there is no certification process and that you were incorrect in stating that one exists.
Anand, great job on starting a news site that so far, can't get its facts straight.

Of course, Del Rizzo may not believe there is a Tritium certification, but NVIDIA's internal design guides certainly disagree with him.  A document containing with the following statement was released to manufacturers earlier this year, with the emphasis ours:

This document outlines the minimum requirements an ODM NVIDIA® C51XEMCP55XE motherboard design must conform to in order to obtain NVIDIA’s Tritium certification. Meeting the requirements guarantees interoperability with other Tritium-certified components and enables utilization of Tritium’s overclockability features, maximizing overall system performance.
NVIDIA has extended its SLI program into memory and motherboards, so our best guess is that the Tritium platform and SLI "platform" are one and the same. We here at DailyTech have no problems delivering the second half of Del Rizzo's wish, but it would seem odd for a company that does not have a Tritium platform to have so much documentation for one.

nVIDIA employee's are the worst fanboys. I remember how quickly they insulted me and how rudely they interrupted me during a live Question and answer with nVIDIA at bjorn3D.

They're like the evil Empire. But they make good products.

Mildly good products. I still wouldnt buy nvidia though. I wouldnt consider myself a fanboy but some people consider me an ATI fanboy. I tend to look more at facts. its not like i completely rule out nvidia or ATI without reading every review on the web and actually talking to credible friends who own the cards themselves. sorry for the rant. its true though Nvidia has the worst fanboys in my opinion.

Go on gamespot and just go to any topic and say you have an ATI card and i guarentee you will have atleast 10 replys of hissying 14 year old fanboys declaring nvidia the true victor dispite all benchmarks lol.

Which benchmarks are you referring to? The one's I've seen indicate that there's really no difference between ATI and Nvidia and buying either is a matter of choice with no clear victor. And, NO, 5 fps doesn't NOT make a winner. Peruse the following benchmarks at your leisure.

I still like SLI over Crossfire as a dual video card solution though. Benchmarks aside Crossfire needs a little more time.

Well, although I agree with your outlook on Bryan's method of handling the situation, he did use "its" correctly--you use the apostrophe when condensing "it is" but not when showing possession.

That was my way of (very) mildly putting the guy in his place for making a childish personal attack like that. Hmmm, I really can't believe that a company as big as Nvidia can have PR person that handles these types of issues in such an aggresive -and at the same time, childish- way. One may not be happy that info on a new product is leaked but resolve it the way BR did? Does he really know what it means to work in PR for a company? And behaving in such a way with one most respected journalists in the pc world? Simply idiotic. Someone with a couple more neurons would probably fire (or at least beat severely :P) a person who has the balls to say stuff like that. But now really what worries me is not so much this issue, but what has happened behind the scenes between PR people at companies like Nvidia and smaller web sites. If a guy like BR has the balls to send an email with a pesonal message directly to Anand, I can only imagine the "special treatment" smaller sites get.

Great reaponse from DT, I think you did the right thing, keep up the good work! Please don't let people like BR push people and/or sites with this type of behavior.

I just typed up a written response to Michael Hara, NVIDIA's Vice President of Investor Relations and Communications. This kind of behaviour from a person in Mr. Del Rizzo's position simply should not be tolerated. If I were an NVIDIA shareholder, I'd be seriously disturbed that they have someone like this representing their company; in a Public Relations position no less.

He could have referred to the spelling, grammar and punctuation of Anandtech, especially DailyTech. But anyways, at least he recognizes the value of factual stories and not opinions such as those of other DailyTech writes. No one ever wants to name names, but to improve the accuracy of those writers and need attention I will throw up the name Michael Hoffman. Anyone else want to jump in and give a shot out to another DailyTech or Anandtech writer that brings them so much joy?

Don't you just hate it when they try to make you feel stupid? If 'Tritium' was something they were working on but since decided not to go with, fine, they should just say so. If they're unsure of their direction at this time, they shouldn't say anything at all.

Instead, this jerk sends you an e-mail denying the existance of the program, and making fun of you to boot. It's not a secret nuclear weapon program!

Agree. If they, in fact, aren't going to pursue Tritium, then just send an email saying so. I am surprised at the rude tone of the email, and the concluding cheap shot at Anand.

I'm sure Mr. Del Rizzo would say the email was private and should not have been published on a public sight. Regardless, this is not a professional way to handle something.

I've always liked Nvidia's products, but this has left a bad taste in my mouth. Don't misunderstand, I'm not trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill; it's one small incident and does not warrant an anti Nvidia campaign. I guess I just expect a more professional attitude from Nvidia.

Going by current similar top end performance, I would much rather buy a x1900 than a 7900. If their PR manager does this, what would their support people do? *shudders*

This is correct. DailyTech is owned by a trust of private investors and Anand has nothing to do with the site other the fact he runs my RSS feed on his front page.

This kinda stuff seriously affects my purchasing decisions. I won't stand for such blatant rudeness in a company I deal with, unless I'm being rude to them (and that wasn't the case here).

It's not like NVIDIA has the throne anymore. Unless I see a mature response, this is more than enough of a reason to replace the planned 7900GTX in my upcoming Conroe-based build with the (arguably better) x1900XT.

I have to agree. I was quite shocked that it came from a company official, more so when I found out he's supposed to be the PR Manager!

Where I come from that's no way for a company's rep - especially from PR - to communicate with the press. The press is always treated with courtesy and respect and if they're in error, they're notified - perhaps firmly but always politely and tactfully.

Hell, if you displease the journalists they'll make sure every single dirty linen in your company's washed on the front page for all to see, and always slant the other way or at least play down your selling points in articles and reviews.

What was Mr del Rizzo thinking? I understand that it's not the first time such an attitude was adopted. This plainly smacks of an uncouth and arrogant attitude and certainly conveys the impression to consumers that the whole of nVidia behaves the same way (whether it's true or not is another story). So much for 'Public Relations'.

I also hate it when I see unprofessional news. However, as I recall it is common practice to quote a letter/conversation/email recieved from a party in regards to correcting published information. It simplifies the process of ensuring the desired issues are addressed.

Kris complied with the wishes NVIDIA's spokesman--the quoted email expressly states the information they wish ammended. It also apparently reveals a personal attack made against DailyTech and Anand, which is oh so professional. Eh well, 2 news bits in one story. I don't see anything wrong with the way Kris handled it, unless he hid a line from the email saying "Please do not publish this email". He didn't even take a stab back at Bryan, but simply quoted the document from which his original information came.

I don't think ATI and nVidia are that unaware of each other's movement. Besides if nVidia wanted to keep the secret they could just make the whole industry sign a NDA.

The whole initiative is awesome. nVidia just has to patent it so ATI can't even think og something like it.

DT was completely within the bounds of professional journalism with this article.

It quite common for manufacturers reponses to be printed, especially about future products.

Besides being a jerk, Rizzo really does a disservice to NVidia by associating his ignorance and insults with their brand.
