New Samsung smartphone is hardly an "iPhone killer", but it is cute
There's an old saying that says "good things come in small packages." That could be the case with Samsung’s new 2.8” Galaxy Pocket.
The cutesy petite Android was
Samsung Electronic Comp., Ltd. (
) in London, England. It will launch in the UK "later this year". U.S. launch plans were not mentioned.
The tiny 'droid uses Android 2.3 "Gingerbread". Don't expect
an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
Given its small size, the phone packs a pokey 832 MHz single-core processor, a 320x240 (QVGA) display, and 3 GB of NAND. Basic HSDPA is supported. The full specs are below:
The iPhone is still the
king of the 3.5-inch niche
. But the new 2.8-inch Galaxy Pocket sets a new standard in tiny, while retaining a decent "core" Android experience. And it will likely be far cheaper than the iPhone when it finally launches later this year (it may even be offered free with contract).

Reminds me of the HTC Touch

Seeing this gives me flashbacks to when I had to go back to my old HTC Touch when my Galaxy S was in for repair for two weeks. I can't imagine any on-screen keyboard being even remotely usable on a screen that small.
I also have to laugh at the fact they always show the same number of rows/columns for their new Galaxy phones, yet there's no way you would get all that information on a 320x240 display.
