New Samsung smartphone is hardly an "iPhone killer", but it is cute
There's an old saying that says "good things come in small packages." That could be the case with Samsung’s new 2.8” Galaxy Pocket.
The cutesy petite Android was
Samsung Electronic Comp., Ltd. (
) in London, England. It will launch in the UK "later this year". U.S. launch plans were not mentioned.
The tiny 'droid uses Android 2.3 "Gingerbread". Don't expect
an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
Given its small size, the phone packs a pokey 832 MHz single-core processor, a 320x240 (QVGA) display, and 3 GB of NAND. Basic HSDPA is supported. The full specs are below:
The iPhone is still the
king of the 3.5-inch niche
. But the new 2.8-inch Galaxy Pocket sets a new standard in tiny, while retaining a decent "core" Android experience. And it will likely be far cheaper than the iPhone when it finally launches later this year (it may even be offered free with contract).

Does the world really need another PoS cheapo security hazard paedo-magnet phone for kids? This is why Android is proliferating at the rate of 50 billion phones a week or whatever the number is now.
I like that the most common screen size for smartphones on the planet is a niche though. Nice touch.
"This week I got an iPhone. This weekend I got four chargers so I can keep it charged everywhere I go and a land line so I can actually make phone calls." -- Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg
