New Samsung smartphone is hardly an "iPhone killer", but it is cute
There's an old saying that says "good things come in small packages." That could be the case with Samsung’s new 2.8” Galaxy Pocket.
The cutesy petite Android was
Samsung Electronic Comp., Ltd. (
) in London, England. It will launch in the UK "later this year". U.S. launch plans were not mentioned.
The tiny 'droid uses Android 2.3 "Gingerbread". Don't expect
an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
Given its small size, the phone packs a pokey 832 MHz single-core processor, a 320x240 (QVGA) display, and 3 GB of NAND. Basic HSDPA is supported. The full specs are below:
The iPhone is still the
king of the 3.5-inch niche
. But the new 2.8-inch Galaxy Pocket sets a new standard in tiny, while retaining a decent "core" Android experience. And it will likely be far cheaper than the iPhone when it finally launches later this year (it may even be offered free with contract).

No, they need to learn from HP and not do this in the first place.
Microsoft probably sold more Kin's than HP sold Veers.
Let's face it, this is not a form factor that anyone is clamoring for, and a low clocked single core processor and low resolution screen is like showing up at a gun fight armed with spit balls.
Imagine trying to type on a virtual keyboard with a screen this size. Or try reading an email, or web page. How well will a flash heavy site run on this anemic hardware? Netflix on a cropped 2 inch diagonal widescreen, no thanks.

Sonyericsson have done reasonably well in Europe with the x10 mini pro and its replacement, there clearly is demand for a small smartphone with keyboard its just the Veer wasn't very good. The Sonyericsson was a similar size and form factor but had a standard 3.5mm out without adapter, removable battery and expandable storage.
