LG Optimus Vu to be shown off at MWC 2012

We are seeing an increasing number of devices that dance on the line between tablets and smartphones. Samsung tried to embrace this market with Galaxy Note that has a screen larger than most smartphones yet a little bit smaller than most tablets combined with the capability of making phone calls.

LG now wants a piece of that action has launched a new device called the Optimus Vu.

The device has a large 5”, 4:3 aspect ratio LCD with a 650 IPS brightness rating. The device and is 8.5 mm thick and sports LTE 4G connectivity. The Optimus Vu will be shown at Mobile World Congress 2012 in Spain. LG claims that the high brightness of the LCD used on the device allows the Optimus Vu to be read easily outdoors and to offer crisp and accurate colors.

The big smartphone weighs 168g so despite the larger screen size it should still be easy to take with you on the go. The Optimus Vu also comes with a rubber stylus pen for navigation and the screen also supports touch. The Optimus Vu uses a 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU and runs Android 2.3. LG says that within three months after the release of the device an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich will be launched.

The Optimus Vu has HDMI out and supports DLNA devices. There is 32GB of internal storage available, an eight-megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 2,080mAh battery.

Nah, they just have to wait for Apple to steal some more great ideas and then they can copy them. (Double Zing?? ^_^)

Seriously though, I'd like to see some expansion of things like the built-in projector, and there's always room for improvement on things like screen quality and battery life.
