Free phones for your sweetie at T-Mobile

T-Mobile is offering some impressive sales for one day only, and that day is Saturday, February 11. On that date, T-Mobile is offering some of its fastest and newest 4G smartphones for free with a qualifying plan purchase.
If you are wondering what the catch is, you must pay for the device upfront and send off one of those hated mail-in rebates. The offer is good for new and existing eligible customers and includes the Samsung Galaxy S II, the SpringBoard tablet, BlackBerry Bold 9900, and HTC Amaze 4G.
“T-Mobile has a commitment to make the 4G experience affordable and accessible to everyone, so this sweet deal on smartphones and tablets is our Valentine’s gift to consumers,” said John Clelland, senior vice president of marketing, T-Mobile USA. “No matter where loved ones live, T-Mobile wants to bring them closer with unlimited talking, photo sharing, video chatting, texting, and more.”
There are also some specials for people that want to sign up for the Unlimited Value Plan rather than the Classic Plan. T-Mobile offers the Galaxy S II at no charge after mail-in rebate with any down payment of $199.99. The Nokia Lumia 710 is available for a $49.99 down payment and is free after rebate. The Sonic 4G Mobile Hotspot is available for a $24.99 down payment and is free after mail in rebate as well.

Walmart plan...

I hate to say it but the Walmart plan is mighty tempting and _very_ affordable. Who can argue with 45.00 a month flat fee, no stupid taxes? I can't. The phones might be slightly older but I don't really care.

I don't own a smartphone but I'll be darned at paying these ridiculous prices some of the smartphone carriers want to charge for data/texting/voice. T-Mobile is who I currently use for my regular cellphone and with them, I pay about 105 - 110 /month for two regular (non-smart) phones. If I switch to Walmart's plan, I could get an Android phone (a Galaxy) that is slightly older, pay 45/month for it and get unlimited data/text etc. on Verizon's network and for an additional 30/month I could get my wife a generic regular phone. Look, I just saved 30-35 a month and upgraded to a much better phone for one of ours!

So... this deal here looks good... I just can't ignore how much I can save going elsewhere when cutting edge doesn't really matter to me. After all, what am I going to do on a Smartphone? Play games? Pointless as I have a PSP that can do that and even then, I _rarely_ use it. If I game it is on my PC. If I'm away from home, I usually have much better things to be doing than playing games. So basically, all a smartphone would need to do is have web access and GPS... Oh, I don't even own a GPS in my car. There still are these things called maps and signs that are extremely useful... Or better yet, I can put to use those skills I learned playing Bard's Tale back in the 80's on navigating my way through a maze via deduction.

It works, try it! :)

Anyways, that's just my two cents on this.

I actually bought myself out of my existing contract ($80 prorated, only a few months left) to go online and sign up on for their plan. I was already in a grandfathered unlimited everything plan similar to walmarts, where the first 200mb was 4G, then throttled, but was paying $100, about $15 more after taxes.

I figure it'll save me $200 over the next two years against my old contract. Since I already had two phones (a Nokia N8 and a Palm Veer) I opted out of purchasing from their slim selection.

It really is a good deal, and I'd recommend, even if a Galaxy S II is free, to do the math. Even when throttled to Edge-speeds, it's entirely usable. The throttling is about 150kbps, but features are still HSPA+ ie. GPS assist, <100ms response time...

What you staed - That's blasphemy on this site.
I have posted a few times that I do not need the latest and greatest phone, and will not pay extra to get those when my carrier offers "free" phones when I upgrade.

BUT I GET YELLED at for suggesting such a thing,
so watch out!

That's blasphemy on this site.

I think his biggest "sin" is stating he is doing business with walmart. I'm pretty sure that qualifies him for an exorcism LOL

read a great article the other day about big store hypocrisy. about how locals boo and hiss and decry loss of jobs when a walmart wants to come to their area, but cheer when an REI or trader joes does the same, even though they have the same effect.

I like REI but man, I can't afford to buy much stuff from there--and I'm an old Eagle Scout! They've got great quality but I tend to buy my outdoors equipment elsewhere most of the time... not all of it though.

Trader Joes is great, too. I do buy things from there such as their steel cut oats (I hate Irish oatmeal) and occasionally their grass-fed, all beef organic hotdogs along with snacks. You have to be careful though. They aren't outrageous like Whole Foods but you can quickly spend a lot on certain things. Overall though they aren't too bad considering the quality you get.

What? You don't worship at the altar of tech supremacy?

I wish I could get another deal like I did for my BlackBerry Curve a few years ago. Free plus a $100 gift card from Wal-mart. I'm more than ready for them to do this with a newer device.
