Apple continues to add to its war chest, sells record numbers of iPhones

It's beginning to become a broken record when reporting on Apple's quarterly earnings, but the boys from Cupertino have done it again. Apple today announced its earnings for fiscal Q1 2012 and the results are as usual very impressive.
The company reported net profit of $13.06 billion on revenue of $46.33 billion ($13.87 per diluted share). Profit for fiscal Q1 2012 was more than double that of fiscal Q1 2011, while gross margins came in at 44.7 percent compared to 38.5 percent a year ago.
“We’re thrilled with our outstanding results and record-breaking sales of iPhones, iPads and Macs,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “Apple’s momentum is incredibly strong, and we have some amazing new products in the pipeline.”

As for product sales numbers, Apple sold 37.04 million iPhones during the quarter (a 128 percent increase) and 15.43 million iPads (a 111 percent increase). The company's Mac sales also saw an increase, but "only" saw a 24 percent increase year-over-year to 5.2 million units.
Apple iPods, however, continue their downward spiral in this age of digital convergence. Sales of the portable music players were down 21 percent to 15.4 million units.

Complete straw man argument. What has market share got to do with what I said?

I said their products are overpriced. They have products with one defining spec. All the rest of it about customer support, quality, no crashes are all just myths. Myths I fell for buying a Mac and an iPad, thinking that was what I was paying extra for. The iPad is woefully unstable. I had two Mac HW failures. Their CS was shit, just repeatedly mindless stuff from their training handbook.

Turns out the price premium is mostly for their bottom line. Oh and the in-store decor.

Gucci sales are increasing. Prada sales are increasing. (Because of China)
Does that suddenly make Gucci or Prada somehow respectable or admirable?

Not in my books. Not for Gucci, Prada. And not for Apple.

I'll ignore your other nonsense to point this out:
To get some perspective on what is happening consider this: In this past quarter, Apple sold 37 million iPhones, 15 million iPads, just over 5 million Macs and around 7 million iPod Touches. That's nearly 67 million computer devices in 3 months. Around 60 million of those devices run an operating system, iOS, that is just five years old. The top 5 "PC" companies, including HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer Group and Asus, sell approximately 60 million PCs per quarter combined.
Some perspective on what? You are arbitrarily comparing Apple's entire product portfolio to PC only sales from 5 manufacturers. Why leave out handset sales from the major handset manufacturers (i.e. Samsung, Nokia, etc.)?

Sorry to hear about your woes - perhaps you need to upgrade your IT skills :)
Sorry to hear about your Windows woes, Tony. Perhaps you need to upgrade your IT skills :)
