Apple sends its attack dogs after Samsung... again
Apple has been handed a number of losses recently in its lawsuits against Samsung in courts around the world. In late November,
Samsung won an appeal overturning a ban
on its Galaxy Tab 10.1. A German judge in late November then
ruled against Apple
after Samsung made changes to its Galaxy Tab 10.1 (the new revision was called the 10.1N) to skirt Apple's design infringement claims.
Naturally, those legal setbacks weren’t enough to dissuade Apple from following up with more lawsuits.
is reporting that Apple has started up a fresh round of lawsuits against Samsung in Germany's Dusseldorf Regional Court. The first lawsuit takes aim at 10 Samsung smartphone designs. The second lawsuit targets five of Samsung's tablet computers.
Google's Android mobile operating system has increasingly become a thorn in Apple's side as it has grown to dominate the global smartphone market. Samsung in particular is seen as a threat, as analysts expect
Samsung to report the sale of 35 million smartphones during Q4 2011
compared to roughly 30 million iPhones for Apple.
Analysts are predicting Samsung's full-year 2012 smartphone sales to reach between 150 and 170 million units.
Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs
started the crusade against Android
and vowed to pull out all the stops to steamroll Google's mobile operating system:
I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong. I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this.
It now appears that even after Jobs' passing, the fight will continue for the foreseeable future. Most recently, Apple found itself on the losing end when Motorola won a favorable initial judgment saying that it
didn't infringe upon three Apple patents

"It's more like, if you can't innovate, steal the idea and then cry victim"
Surely then you can explain exactly what Apple invented and exactly how Samsung infringed on that patent then, cant you?
Apple's patents are vague and not holding up in any courts. If you want to claim one company copies another, how about how Apple copied the whole , putting an OS and apps on a phone idea from Palm/Handspring? That is acceptable, but Copying vague concepts in Apple patents are not? Come on, get real. All companies copy ideas from others, its normal and always has been and Apple is MORE guilty of it than anyone here.

That's the way the patent system is
to work. You patent a
or a specific implementation of something. If other people find ways to do the same things differently (and hopefully, better) then we have
and those people are rewarded as well with their own patents.
What Apple (and others) seem to be doing is getting patents issued on
, and many of them also seem to be trivial and obvious as well. There's a difference between getting a patent on a particular engine design and patenting the notion of an engine or the burning of gasoline for power.
Those who lambast Android for things like "you have icons in a grid layout! You STOLE it!" just don't understand the intention of the patent office or capitalism. They also don't understand the important parts of a mobile OS. What makes the Samsung Galaxy Tab a good device aren't slightly rounded corners.
