HTC Titan II coming to AT&T's LTE network in the "coming months"

As we reported over the weekend, Microsoft and its partners are finally realizing that Windows Phone won't simply sell itself -- it has to put some money and marketing muscle behind the platform.
 
There also needs to be an emphasis on better hardware for the Windows Phone platform. Nokia will do its part with the Lumia 900 at a press conference later today, while HTC is already onboard with the HTC Titan II. The Titan II is the first LTE smartphone to grace AT&T's nascent network.
 
The smartphone comes packing a large 4.7" display, a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S2 processor, a whopping 16MP rear camera with 720p video recording capability (a 1.3 front facing camera is also included), and a large 1730 mAh battery.

 
“HTC’s history of innovation in 4G technology includes delivering the first 4G-powered devices to each major carrier in the U.S., so it is exciting today to continue that leadership with our first 4G LTE Windows Phone, the HTC TITAN II,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corp. “This full-featured smartphone combines HTC’s design with AT&T’s high-speed 4G LTE network and Microsoft’s powerful Windows Phone software, giving people more of what they crave.”
 
We don't yet having any pricing or concrete availability details for the HTC Titan II. All HTC will say at the moment is that it will be available in the "coming months".

Are the new windows phones worth it?

I haven't read much reviews but I used to have an old Winmo6.0 phone and was really happy with it. Never crashed, synced nicely with my outlook and it was a good phone. My Galaxy S phone (AT&T Captivate) right now is annoying the crap out of me. It crashes on some apps (which i know isn't entirely Google's fault) but when it crashes there's no kill switch (damn apple got something right). I end up pulling the battery out of my phone when it freezes and that deprives me of someone getting in touch with me. My other gripe is, all the software for syncing with Outlook sucks unless you export a csv file to gmail.

Now if anyone has the new windows phone, is it any better? Or should I just get a iphone.

Sorry to hear that Smartless. I've had my HTC Trophy for just about a year now and it is the best mobile OS I have used so far. I have had ZERO app crashes, my E-mail syncs perfectly (with Microsoft Exchange AND Gmail). My Google calendar, Facebook Events, Exchange work calendar, and Windows Live calendar all sync perfectly into one place.

When I take photos they sync automatically to the cloud to my SkyDrive account and I also get the option to upload to Facebook. It even recognizes faces for me for quick tagging.

I can stream any song from Microsoft's music library AND I get to keep 10 songs DRM-free as well. My phone is also my remote for my Xbox.

Maybe you got a bunk unit? The OS I have is smooth as butter and is more responsive and snappy than any of my friends/coworkers who have an Android, Blackberry, or an iPhone. Short of VPN/RDP functionality and the lack of video conferencing (watch as Skype/Lync are added to take that over) I'm 100% satisfied with my phone. My friends have taken note too after using it and are considering switching when their contracts are up.

All of my updates have gone smooth and I've never had to restore the device. Not sure what OS you're using...

He has an Android phone, duh.

Let's put it this way: As "messy" as Android is or was, it is way, way better than WM ever was. And thanks to Apple and Android, MS decided to make something decent.

But they had over ten years to get it right. And when the iphone came out, WM was still stuck on IE 4, that's right, the same browser Win98 came with (hell Win95 OSR2 had it in 1997).

Sorry, I'm not wanting MS to ever regain momentum in the market again.

The fact that you mentioned windows mobile makes you look like an tool. Windows Phone 7/7.5 has nothing to do with WM. WM existed for as long as it did for legacy support. It shouldn't be compared to modern mobile operating systems.

Oh, except that both are based on Windows CE huh?

So what if WP7 is a break from WM? That does not disprove the fact that MS was content with the garbage that WM was for the next century, IE4 and all, if it werent' for competition.
Legacy support my ass.

I could go on and on about the backwards decisions made with WM5 and their syncing, or how their mobile exchange client wouldn't sync after a week, or losing the ability to ring when calls came in.

You certainly COULD go on about and I welcome you to do so. I'll enjoy my great experience with WP7 in the present while you rage about how it was "back in the day". Sound fair? =P

Good for you if you like your phone. Congratulations for MS for making a halfway decent product after 17 years of trying.
The rest of the world got tired of waiting and left the MS ecosystem a long time ago.

Woah woah hold your horses man, Apple designed something beatuful also precisely because it was nearly killed by MS a decade or two ago, why would Apple bring SJ back and build the new dark empire from scratch if they were sitting on a monopoly market like MS did in the recent years? There's no reason to do anything once you got a monopoly status, look at Apple sitting duck before MS killed it, look at RIM sitting duck before Apple killed it, look at MS sitting duck before Apple killed it too (not all across the board of course but you got my point). It's always the same story for any company, MS is not inherently evil and neither is Apple or Google. They become slow and sleepy after they get monopoly status, watch Apple or Google turning into some other kind of monopoly in the future and THEN you'll hail Ballmer as your savior. Mark my words man.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't, eh... funny how MS can be so evil all the time even though nearly EVERYONE in the passed decade or two has seen their quality of life grow in ways previously unimaginable. I can't even imagine the world without Microsoft having played the role it did. Maybe you were just entitled to it all though?

That's pretty subjective question. it should be pretty trivial to go to ATT store and try WP7 and iPhone side by side and decide for yourself, but if you're looking for people's opinions here's mine:
I like my WP7, never had any isues, the user experience is smooth and refreshing, plenty of apps available, social integration, Exchange sync, MS Office and Windows Live integration, XBOX Live integration is top notch. So if you're a user of the beforementioned services you will not be dissapointed.

I love my HTC HD7. It had some issues with the Mango update, but haven't had an issue since.

My only issues with my phone are all hardware related - I have no front facing camera, so that's a major bummer, and I had to get my original phone replaced because the back facing camera had a bad image sensor (a manufacturing defect.)

My previous phone was a MyTouch 3g and the HD7 is by far a much better phone, web browser, email client and music player. Android still has the edge in apps though - mostly in number and variety. Of the apps that exist on the Windows Phone, they seem to be of at least as good quality.

My next phone will definitely be another Windows Phone7 - hopefully one with a front facing camera. I love Android, but it makes a much better computer than phone. Windows Phone7 is simply the best phone I have ever used. Hopefully Ice Cream Sandwich will be as good a phone OS as Mango already is.

My Wife has a Android based Samsung phone and if you mention the hanging, freezing, crashing, or usb issues your obviously a liar because someone somewhere has never had this problem on an Android based device and will tell your differently.

I own 6 Android based devices they all will experience issues with performance and stability. Not immediately but about once a month there are problems which can only be solved by reboot of the device. So people hated it when Windows needed to be rebooted but are ok with their communication device fails them and needs reboots? Im amazed at what people tolerate today. I'm looking at you too iPhone 4 users who were ok with dropped calls because of a design issue. You sure put up with a lot.

In a freak turn of events my Windows Phone 7 has never crashed or even needed a reboot except when it was upgraded to 7.5. Its smooth its snappy and I love it. Something we joked about at work the other day because we manage about 150 servers which need reboots. How the heck did Microsoft make a Phone that doesn't need a reboot?

Try the Windows Phone notice that everyone with one really likes them.

I have a HTC Trophy and I love it. As others have said the UI is smooth, no stuttering, don't have to reboot once a week like my Samsung Charge.
I had to quit using it though, after the Mango update. Our company uses a Sharepoint server for our website, and before mango, IE7 would render the pages fine. Now that IE is updated to 9, the pages will not render correctly. I had to get an Android phone and install Firefox on it. Now I can view pages on the server.
I have been in touch on WP7 forums about this, and was very dissapointed that it was not fixed in the 8107 update. After having to go back to Android, and all the bugginess, I really want my WP back.

I own the Titan and it is the best phone on the market. Windows Phone is revolutionary and if anybody tries to argue different they are biased and have not evaluated the devices to any knowledgable extent. I've used and still use regularly ios, blackberry and android devices. Windows Phone is the most fun and refreshing to use, hands down.

You will love windows phone, guaranteed. Check out the reviews of the htc titan on at&t's site. Highest customer rated phone. check out htc radar on t-mobile, same thing. People that own a windows phone know how lucky they are to have not listened to idiots who try to associate it with windows mobile.

WinMo6 is ok, but that's it. WP7's impression on you will depend on what you liked about WM6. Presently WM6 is capable of more when it comes to niche things like joining a work domain and the like. I'm not even sure if WP7 has VPN support presently or not.

Almost definitely WP8 will be a dirivitive of Win8 which likely will bring all sorts of feature happiness to the platform though...

On the otherhand, if all you care about is easy to use txting, calling, internet, and good quality apps and battery life WP7 is a good alternative. If nothing else, WM6 is certainly on its way out...
