Vizio looks to enter the highly competitive PC market
One of the first things that come to mind when the name Vizio is mentioned are cheap flat-panel televisions. The American-based company has been fighting it out in the TV market by introduced feature-packed models at bargain basement prices. Now Vizio is looking to do the same thing in the PC market.
With its new PC lineup (which all will be running Windows 7), Vizio is tackling two of the hottest sectors in the computer market:
. According to the
, Vizio will introduce 24" and 27" all-in-one machines along with 14" and 15.6" Ultrabooks (although Vizio prefers the term "thin and light"). A third laptop, a 15.6" model, will offer "extreme portable performance."

So how exactly does Vizio think that it can compete in such a cutthroat PC market place -- a market that Hewlett-Packard
recently was thinking of abandoning
? "We’ve built a business model and strategy to identify markets that have matured and have slowed and then turn them upside down," said Vizio CTO Matt McRae. "We are uniquely advantaged in attacking stale markets that have sleepy giants that are not moving the ball forward much.”
McRae follows up by stating that the machines will be offered at “a price that just doesn’t seem possible.”

Although the new machines won’t hit the market until June, the company will have it new PCs on full display at the Consumer Electronics Show and we’ll definitely be brining you some hands-on analysis.

Actually, I just purchased a 47" Vizio 480Hz backlit LED 3D TV (10M:1 contrast) - yes 480Hz.
It's better than ANY Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Westinghouse, or anything else I've seen; but stores don't typically carry the 480Hz (3D) Vizios because they do cost a little more, but it was still at least half the price of competitors.
I would think twice about Vizio, if I were you, some of the best TVs I've seen come from brands that people haven't heard of so much (eg Insignia).
I will say that I've also purchased a 40" Samsung (edge lit) LED SmartTV - while I do like a few features of the Samsung (power off after a while of no input), I still prefer the Vizio when it comes to quality, especially during action scenes (football/soccer games).
I think everyone is associating Vizio's brand with Walmart/Cost-co and saying because it is a TV on a budget, it's not as nice, but I believe that is a wrong idea. Costco also sells Samsung, so is that brand also bad (BTW I'm not impressed with any 60Hz TV I've seen, which both stores carry), if I were you all, I would not base my opinion on the two large popular brick-and-mortars that carry them.

I'm a plasma guy myself. All of the features they throw on LCD HDTVs (local LED backlight dimming, 120hz+, etc), are bandaids on on inherent limitations of the technology.
In any case, the Vizio I've seen have issues that more expensive LCDs do not, and I certainly don't expect them to measure up to the Sharp Elites. If you don't know what to look for then it's cool, but the differences jump out at me immediately.

A flagship model from any brand will probably satisfy the person buying it, but the Vizio still comes in last against the competition. Even the CNET editor's choice selection has glaring PQ issues. Great bang for the buck, no doubt about it, but not for videophiles in the least.
