Apple threatened In Icons company for making a Steve Jobs doll

Apple is no stranger to throwing lawsuits around, but instead of accusing another company of ripping off its products, it's now blaming them for ripping off its former leader.

In Icons, a Chinese company, recently created an action figure of Apple's former CEO Steve Jobs. Jobs died from pancreatic cancer complications back in October 2011.

The figurine is 12 inches tall and looks nearly identical to Apple's co-founder. It features Jobs' signature black turtleneck, blue jeans, sneakers, glasses, and even has interchangeable hands to show his different movements. The doll also comes with two Apples, one of which has a bite out of it, a "One More Thing" backdrop and a bar stool.

The doll is already up for sale on eBay for $135, and In Icons was set to begin selling it in February. However, if Apple has its way, the Steve Jobs look-alike won't make it to store shelves or consumer's hands.

According to Apple's letter to In Icons, the tech giant owns all rights pertaining to its founder, and the "likeness" of the doll falls under those rights. Toys that resemble the company's logo, appearance, likeness or someone's name are subject to a legal action if not made by Apple itself.

maybe the doll contains a faithful reproduction of someone else's kidney, so at least that part isn't infringing.
and how come he got a new kidney? you can't upgrade his "computers", but he can just go and upgrade himself? what a sellout, man.

and what's with those motivational phrases, he got those off a calendar, right?

and they could just change the hair a bit, change the clothes, and call it a gandhi doll, and then sell the ultragay turtleneck as a separate accessory.

Who are you kidding, you know Tony Swash will buy five of these.

My own concern is that he might lose his self control and "defile" the Steve doll one intimate evening.

"Oh Steve... you looked so life like... I couldn't help myself... I'm sorry."

5?! He'll buy a whole container full of these things and then use his Jesus phone a la Weird Science to melt them down to make iLazarus.

No, he has already contacted a "love doll" manufacturer in Japan and has a special order. He also got a $500 box to ship it in, it's black with a silver apple logo on it.

I think the doll is fitting. Apple was all about ripping off other ideas and concepts, slapping their logo on them and calling them their own (after tweaking them a little). It looks like the Chinese have tweaked Steve. Seems fair enough to me.

I'd say the only thing it's missing is a string (or button) on the back, that will make it say famous pithy Steve Jobs phrases. You know, like, "You're holding it wrong", and others like that!

Anyone who buys this doll clearly has not read his bio. Otherwise they would know what a total douche he was his entire life. From start to finish. The guy treated everyone like crap on his way to the top, back down to the bottom, and back up to the top again. No one that ever knew him had nothing but good things to say about him.

I would consider a Woz doll, since after all, he was the real brains behind Apple in the early days. Steve was just the non materialistic hippie that for some reason wanted to make millions of dollars selling them.

Douche or not he had a massive influence on the market of mobile and desktop electronics.

Steve Jobs should be thanked for his contributions to computers and making them "friendly", but he should not be idolized or have dolls made of him. The guy was a prick who did not care at all about the people who helped him make Apple what it is. He cared only about himself.

It was fitting, sorry you disagree. Tony is a iTool douche and deserves it. Maybe if he wasn't so anal about his love affair with Apple, things might be different.

At least Tony actually includes facts

oh, like the fact that 99.99% of all malware is for windows (that's a 1:9,999 ratio, to simplify your thinking)? that's gotta be my favorite tony fact. he brings up that exact ratio every time malicious software is relevant to anything. and although it's hard to find real numbers of stuff like this, anyone willing to believe that the ratio is 1:9,999 is clearly delusional.

You have said this several times, let's talk about insults eh? And Tony, he insults people as well. Not sure where you are going with this. His "facts", usually come from some Apple related site, sounds a little biased to me. The majority of educated people, they see right through Tony's crap which is why he is rated down so much.

Balanced? LOL

Put Tony's comments in an unbiased setting and you'll find they are rated far higher.

Go ahead, put his comments is an unbiased setting, he will still get rated down.

lol@ "... one intimate evening."

Is it possible to give this a "6" rating? On DailyTech, where Swash-buckling continues? Yes, it is possible ;)

I have information from a confidential source he already does:

I already have a Steve Jobs blow up doll. Made it myself from hair and skin flakes I collected from a public bathroom after he used it. - Tony Swash
