Numbers more than double last year's X-mas figures, shatter single-day activations record
Google and Apple both had a merry Christmas, as a record 6.8 million of their devices were unwrapped on the holiday.
The statistics, which were released by Flurry Analytics, suggest that an average of 1.5 million of the devices are activated on any day from Dec. 1-24. The number of activations on Christmas accounts for a 353-percent spike in activations.
The numbers account for a 140-percent increase over the previous single-day activation record (on Christmas 2010), which boasted 2.8 million smartphone activations.
Furthermore, Flurry suggests that the number of apps downloaded on Christmas day more than doubled the single-day average for the rest of December.
Meanwhile, Andy Rubin, Google's senior VP of mobile, tweeted that more than 3.7 million Android devices were activated over the holiday weekend, accounting for a little more than half of all activations.
While the ubiquitous iPad boosted Apple's numbers, despite the company not launching a much-hyped iPhone 5, the major increase has been attributed by some experts to more affordability and choice (
perhaps even overload
) in the market.

Wow, that was really out of left field.
In any case, to some people it is more of a religious holiday, and to some it is more of a gift giving holiday, and to some it is both. As a Christian myself, I know that it is not Christs birthday, but that is irrelevant. If
the world wants to remember the birth of Christ on some day (whether accurate or not), i'm all for it. The bible says that if one man wants to hold one day above another, he can do so - and if another man wants to regard all days as the same, he can do that as well, and its "alllll good". Thats Romans 14:5.
Some people try to make its so called "origins" an issue, which is pretty silly. Pagans did not do what we do, and they didn't do it for the same reasons, so its quite simply not the same. We all do nice things for ourselves throughout the course of the year, so it makes good sense that at least one day out of the year we should all get gifts for other people. We all (almost) celebrate our own birthdays, so if our country nationally observes a particular day (namely Dec 25th in this case) as a day to celebrate the birth of Christ, than that is also good. The day that they pick to do it is irrelevant. Frankly i'm glad that they do it for many reasons. Those that take issue with the days "religiosity" should get over themselves anyway, because even from an atheistic perspective, it is at least a benefit for our economy.

LOL yeah, not sure what his rant had to do with the article. But never underestimate the lengths some will go to drag religion into an argument.
