Android support starts with EITX-3002
VIA has announced now that it has extended support for the Android operating system to more of its mainboards. Moving forward, all of the x86 VIA mainboards will support Android starting with the small EITX-3002 mainboard.
The mainboard now supports Android 2.2, Windows 7, windows 7 Embedded Standard, windows XP, Debian Linux. The mainboard is aimed at multiple embedded applications including in-car entertainment and digital signage. The processor on the board is a 1.2GHz Nano X2 or a 1GHz Eden X2. The small mainboard also has a VIA VX900H media system processor to support HD video up to 1080p resolution in multiple formats.
“VIA has a long history of offering a wide range of options and customized solutions for our embedded customers,” said Epan Wu, Head of the VIA Embedded Platform Division, VIA Technologies, Inc. “The addition of Android OS support to our embedded x86 boards adds increased flexibility and further broadens our ability to meet their needs.”

Other features include support for dual independent displays. It also has a HDMI port, VGA port, and dual gigabit Ethernet ports embedded. The profile of the mainboard is Em-ITX measuring 17cm wide x 12cm long. The board supports integration of resistive touch display as well. The board is packaged to use the top and bottom of the board to get everything into a small amount of space.
VIA is also offering a new Embedded Tool Kit that allows the board to control peripheral devices when Android is the operating system.
