Over the last few years OCZ has transformed itself into a serious player in the SSD industry. The company has been so successful that it has vacated some of the other markets that it used to be in like RAM and notebooks.
 
OCZ has a new SSD that it has announced for its line of storage devices called the Petrol. The SSD uses a 6Gbps SATA interface and comes in a 2.5-inch form factor.
 
"Until today, SSD adoption has been limited to high performance applications due to the high cost of SSDs in relation to slower rotating discs, and we are proud to once again close the gap in pricing without sacrificing durability," said Ryan Petersen, CEO of OCZ Technology. "The new Petrol Series showcases the flexibility of the Indilinx Everest platform and NDurance™ Technology, allowing OCZ to deliver the benefits of SSDs to a wide new set of applications while retaining the superior real world performance and reduced latency that separate Everest-based SSDs from our competitors."
 
The SSD uses the Indilinx Everest SSD processor that is capable of 400MB/s bandwidth and 35,000 IOPS. The chip also gives the SSD advanced features for longevity like proprietary page mapping algorithms. Those allow for a more stable mixed-workload environment. Latency in the SSD is reduced to as low as 0.6ms.
 
The Petrol line will come in models ranging from 64GB to 512GB. Pricing and availability are unknown at this time.
