Honda's latest EV concept is a two-seat roadster

Honda is a company that loves to tease us with relatively cool concepts, then dump blandness on the masses when it comes to production vehicles. The company has killed off true sporty cars (Prelude, Integra, and RSX) and outright sports cars (NSX and S2000) in the past decade. What we are now left with are the Civic Si and CR-Z (at least in the United States).

With all of this carnage in its wake, we have to look at Honda's latest concept with a cautious eye. The company today unveiled its new EV-STER roadster concept at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show. The roadster is fully electric and features a 10 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that's good for 100 miles.

The rear-wheel drive concept -- in theory -- is capable of reaching 37 mph in 5.0 seconds. Given this odd choice of acceleration numbers, we'll have to assume that its 0-60 mph time is rather dreadful. And for those looking to blast down the highway at triple-digit speeds while thumbing your nose at the law, you'll be held back by a top speed of "only" 99 mph.

Although Honda hasn't given an official curb weight for the EV-STER, it says that it makes extensive use of carbon fiber to keep weight down to improve performance and battery range.

We still have faith that Honda will return to its glory days (the 1990s) and bring some lovin' to car enthusiasts, but we won't be holding our breath for too long. But then again, archrival Toyota did answer the call

On behalf of past and present Prelude owners everywhere, we the undersigned respectfully request you add the beloved Honda Prelude to this list of vehicles which unjustly met their end by Honda's hands. It would be a great injustice if such a venerable and well received vehicle were to pass without it's rightful epitaph.

I had forgotten all about the Prelude ;) Then again, because of the Integra, it's easy to forget about the Prelude :)

I got your Integra right here.

I grew out of Integra's and Civic SI rice rockets when I was around 19 years old.

That actually looks like an Infiniti G20.

But...OK. I will admit that the market segment you are mocking has given true import enthusiasts a bad name.

I'm one of them. My S2000 is putting out 315 at the wheels on 5psi boost...which is like 370+ at the crank. It's quick, but mine's actually conservative as 5psi is nothing.

Please tell me that you haven't added sh*tty rims, a wing, and a crappy body kit ;)

Nah, the rest is stock.

The only mods are the blower, Comptech exhaust (to substantially increase the blower's efficency, and it's the most stock-looking and sounding one...but it's still shiny:) ), and OEM S2000 17 inch rims (from the later S2000) so that I can run 255 rear tires in the summer (I use the stock rims for winter).

No wings, or body kits for me;)

I didn't. :) I had, for a little while, a 95 Civic hatch with a K20A (RSX Type S motor) in it with some mods (cams, header, Ti exhaust, intake manifold, cold air intake, ECU flash, coilovers, clutch, Ti valve springs, 1.5 way LSD, rear sway bar, some braces here and there). Someone offered me a decent amount of money for it and away it went.

Sounds like a fun car...probably 210-220whp?

U get points for actually putting a LSD in it...most skip that or won't bother due to how much work/cost it is.

210whp or so (wish I still had the dyno sheets). As much money as I put into that car, I wasn't going to skimp on the LSD.
