Commercial shows Apple fans camped out for the iPhone 4S, marveling at the Samsung Galaxy S II
The past year's events have made it pretty clear that Apple and Samsung aren't the best of friends. Apple initially accused Samsung of copying
and iPad designs when developing the Galaxy line, and a
long list of lawsuits
have been launched back and forth ever since around the globe.
Apple may have successfully killed Samsung's sales in some countries outside the U.S., but Samsung isn't going to take this lying down. In its latest commercial for the Galaxy S ll, Samsung makes fun of Apple fanboys by portraying a scene where they're all waiting in line hours in advance
for the next release
. While waiting, the fanboys are noticing passerby with phones that are "magnificent," and of course the phones in question are Galaxy S ll's.
The fanboys make pompous comments while waiting in line, such as "If it looks the same, how will people know I upgraded?" and an exchange between two fanboys that goes as follows:
Fanboy 1: I could never get a Samsung, I'm creative.
Fanboy 2: Dude you're a barista.

In 1989 the Commodore 64 had already secured it's place in the Guiness Book of World Records as the largest production run of any computer, anywhere. A record it still holds today :)
The Apple II was fading away, the c64/c128 still had a solid hold in the home market & the Amiga had a firm foothold in commercial video & graphics.
Apple has never held a commanding market share. The Apple II series targeted the hobbyist market and the Macs have always had a niche presence in publishing, art & audio.
I considered an Apple II in the 80s, but I found the Commodore 8bit computers to be more capable out of the box and very easy to hack.

Don't leave out Ataris! They were freaking Apple out because of a device available for the Atari ST called the Spectre that, once you equipped it with an Apple ROM, could emulate the Macintosh - actually some of the Ataris were faster (both machines used Motorola 68K processors), so you'd actually end up with a faster Mac with a higher res monitor! Atari also beat Apple to the portable punch when they released their first portable and then laptop and, equipped with a Spectre, Atari actually produced the first Mac laptop! :-) Although it was canceled, Atari also had a device called the "ST Pad" in development and prototypes existed.
So yes, both Commodore and Atari took turns showing up Apple back then.
“Then they pop up and say ‘Hello, surprise! Give us your money or we will shut you down!' Screw them. Seriously, screw them. You can quote me on that.” -- Newegg Chief Legal Officer Lee Cheng referencing patent trolls
