A photo of a smartphone has caused quite a stir in the tech community, as many believe it may be

got its hands on the first photo of what is believed to be the BlackBerry London. This smartphone, which is expected to be released mid-2012, is to offer the
upcoming BBX operating system
, which was announced at the fourth annual BlackBerry Developer Conference in October and is based on QNX.
The BlackBerry London allegedly features a 1.5 GHz Tl OMAP dual-core CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB storage capacity, a 2 MP front-facing camera and an 8 MP rear camera. According to

The photo contains a "dummy" model of the phone, but a
source says the model in the picture is indeed real. The London has replaced the BlackBerry Colt, which was the first QNX-based RIM handset that was in-progress, but the Colt was terminated in favor of the London.
While the launch date of the London isn't set in stone,
notes a June 2012 release is in order.

Yeah, RIM's "killer app" was secure email to/from a mobile device. That's why companies loved them - they could give them to their employees,
control emails sent with them to keep them secure. (In the corporate espionage sense. There's no stopping a government determined to snoop your emails.)
Nobody else was able to put together email over phones which worked as well and as securely as RIM's solution at the time. But once phones became capable of regular secure email over a phone's regular data connection (i.e. your phone is indistinguishable from your computer on the Internet), RIM's advantage evaporated.

Not to mention the couple of server outages at RIM that left the email not working (once for four days).
