RIM's BlackBerry London  (Source: The Verge)
The smartphone is the BlackBerry London, and will be released in mid-to-late 2012

A photo of a smartphone has caused quite a stir in the tech community, as many believe it may be Research In Motion's next-generation touchscreen BlackBerry smartphone running the new BBX operating system.

The Verge got its hands on the first photo of what is believed to be the BlackBerry London. This smartphone, which is expected to be released mid-2012, is to offer the upcoming BBX operating system, which was announced at the fourth annual BlackBerry Developer Conference in October and is based on QNX.

The BlackBerry London allegedly features a 1.5 GHz Tl OMAP dual-core CPU, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB storage capacity, a 2 MP front-facing camera and an 8 MP rear camera. According to The Verge, the London is the same size as a Galaxy S ll (though it was unclear which one) and is thinner than the iPhone 4.

The photo contains a "dummy" model of the phone, but a BGR source says the model in the picture is indeed real. The London has replaced the BlackBerry Colt, which was the first QNX-based RIM handset that was in-progress, but the Colt was terminated in favor of the London.

While the launch date of the London isn't set in stone, The Verge notes a June 2012 release is in order. BGR, on the other hand, predicts a Q3 2012 release.

I'm with you here. I am one of those must have keyboard types. I hate onscreen keyboards that require to STOP everything I'm doing just to respond to a simple text message. It just doesn't work for me. I love the Blackberry keyboard and as a result I'm able to accomplish so much more work on a BB as opposed to those other toy phones.

I need one too. Fortunately there are many options like the Droid3. It has a full keyboard and isn't a dinosour. A Toy? Sorry, I use it daily at work and its far more productive, compatible, useful than any Blackberry ever made.

QNX may change that, it looks very promising, but then again, by the middle of next year we will be coming up on IOS6 and Android 5, possibly Windown mobile 8, so BBX damn well better be awesome.

I consider my Droid 3 a mini computer. I hate virtual keyboards since when you remote into another computer that damn keyboard covers half the screen! That and a virtual keyboard sucks big time when trying to pass shell commands.
