IBM set to introduce the Z61m, Z61t and Z61e

Despite earlier rumors of the demise of Lenovo's widescreen ThinkPad models, the company is marching on with a new range of dual-core, widescreen ThinkPads. According to Notebook Review, Lenovo will announce the Z61m, Z61t and Z61e tomorrow.

The 5.94 pound Z61m will be available with processors ranging from a lowly Celeron M 410 (1.46GHz) all the way up to a Core Duo T2500 (2.0GHz). Up to 2GB of PC2-5300 memory is supported on the notebook, while the 15.4-inch screen will be available in 1280x800, 1280x800 MaxBright and 1680x1050 resolutions. Lenovo is very generous with video options as one can configure the Z61m with the standard GMA950 integrated graphics, a 64MB Radeon X1300 or a 128MB Radeon X1400. Battery life clocks in at 5.6 hours with the 6-cell battery and 8.3 hours with the 9-cell battery. Also, a new feature on the Z61m is a built-in webcam.

Jumping to the 4.17 pound Z61t, processor and memory options are mirrored with the Z61m. The Z61t on the other hand does make do with a 14.1-inch widescreen display with screen resolutions of 1280x768 or 1440x900. If you were looking for discrete graphics solution on this model, you'll be disappointed -- the Z61t is stuck with Intel's GMA950. As for battery life, the 4-cell battery gives you 3.7 hours and the 7-cell unit gives you 6.25 hours of run time. The Z61t also features a built-in webcam and a 3-in-1 media reader.

Also on deck is a budget version of the Z61t: the Z61e. The Z61e uses the same chassis as the Z61t, but makes do without the magnesium lid and has no dedicated graphics or webcam. Prices will dip below $1,000 for models equipped with Intel's Mobile Celeron processors.
