iPhone 4S gets recommended rating

If you recall the weeks immediately after the launch of the iPhone 4 in 2010, you’ll remember all the complaints about reception issues and the “grip of death” that plagued the phone. The antenna problem – which was dubbed Antennagate -- meant that if the user touched the iPhone 4 in specific spot, it would lose its cellular signal leading to dropped calls and reduced data speeds.
Consumer Reports tested the iPhone 4 and found that it did in fact suffer from a reception issue and didn’t recommend the device, creating some drama for the folks in Cupertino. The iPhone 4 still sold very well despite the issues though. Consumer Reports has laid hands on the iPhone 4S and this time out the new iPhone has landed the recommended rating by the publication.

According to Consumer Reports, it conducted the same special reception tests on the new iPhone 4S and found that it didn’t suffer from the same issues as the iPhone 4. Consumer Reports, however, still doesn't recommend the iPhone 4.
It’s worth noting that with many iPhone 4S users are complaining about short battery life. Consumer Reports notes that in its battery tests, the iPhone 4S performed OK. Consumer Reports wrote, "The Apple iPhone 4S did very well in our standard tests of battery life; like the iPhone 4, it scores Very Good overall on that attribute. And the iPhone 4S and new samples of the iPhone 4 have displayed no notable battery problems in additional special tests we carried out, after some owners complained on user forums of short run times with some samples of both phones."
Consumer Reports also takes a timeout to note that while the iPhone 4S was good and is recommended there are some Android devices that scored better. Android devices deemed better include the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Droid Bionic.
