This will allow citizens access to Netflix's video streaming only content for a monthly price that is yet to be announced
Netflix may have hit a few speed bumps throughout 2011, but now it's moving ahead once again at full speed as the video streaming/DVD company plans to make its way into the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Netflix started streaming videos in the U.S. in 2007. It eventually spread to Canada in 2010, then 43 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean in September 2011.
Now, Netflix has announced that it will land in the UK and Ireland in early 2012. This will allow citizens access to Netflix's video streaming only content for a monthly price that is yet to be announced.
The exact date of launch is unknown as well, but citizens of the UK and Ireland can go to Netflix's website to sign up for an email alert, which will let them know when the service has launched.
This launch comes after months of trying times for Netflix. In July, the company announced that it was
changing the prices and plans
it offered. Instead of a price of $9.99 for video streaming and DVD rental, the two services were split for $7.99 a piece, or a customer could receive both for $15.98. Netflix cited
higher costs for licensing rights from movie studios and television networks
for the price hike and plan changes.
lost its distribution deal with Starz
, which means no more Sony or Disney-related content on Netflix once the deal is up in February. Then, Netflix tried to create a
DVD spin-off business called Qwikster
, requiring customers to make a new password on a new site for an all-new company service with separate billing.
The negative feedback rolling in from customers was stacking up to the point where Netflix
lowered its Q3 2011 U.S. subscriber forecasts
from 25 million to 24 million. Less than a month later, Netflix
decided against launching Qwikster
currently worried about what Netflix has to report
in regards to Q3 2011, and expects clear answers when those results are released today. But with an upcoming launch in the UK and Ireland, as well as the holiday season approaching, Netflix may have a chance to make it up.

Still waiting for Netflix/Hulu or any decent Movie/TV show streaming service to arrive in the land down under...
At-least give me an

When they changed the price, I canceled streamin, as I decided to go with bluray/dvd only, since I primarily only watched new releases, & new TV shows, & since the streamin doesn't allow or have a selection I am interested in, as far as I am concerned I lost nothing since every movie that you can stream, you can also just rent the physical copy, & movies get to me in a day so that is really no wait time, so until Netflix gets streamin where we can rent all movies, I am fine with 2 out DVD/BR for $14.99/month, it's good to see em expanding, as this is a good way to improve revenues.
