Official unveils of Asus Transformer Prime to happen next month
With the release of
Ice Cream Sandwich
and fresh new processing/graphics core, there is bound to be tidal wave of new Android-based tablets this holiday season. One of those new high-end devices is the followup to the ASUS Transformer: the ASUS Transformer Prime.
ASUS CEO Jerry Shin has shown the tablet off at the AsiaD conference and a formal unveil with more details will reportedly come next month.
reports that the Transformer Prime has a 10-inch screen and a quad-core
NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor
Like its predecessor, the the Transformer Prime will be available with a laptop dock to make the tablet into a notebook with track pad and a keyboard. The tablet is said to be 8.33mm thick and will sport a mini HDMI port, USB ports, and a SD card reader for full size cards.
Shin also hinted that the ASUS line of netbooks would get a redesign to look like the Transformer Prime.
There is no indication of the pricing or availability on the Transformer Prime.

Well at what price and what battery life?

Ah missed that too...
7) Battery life 8+ hrs (enough for a work day)
Price I would say about <$500 - $400 is the sweet spot in my opinion for most people to consider such a device. It is meant as an media consumption device - a luxury but yet built on "commodity" parts. Costing more than $400 to $500 for such devices is like saying it isn't meant for mainstream public but rather for those who can/will splurge money without care.
Regardless I feel that the way things are going on in the mobile/tablet world, a lot of companies are going to burn the same way they did during the netbook era - far too many options and far too many quick changes - that after reporting massive revenue jumps they still didn't make any decent profit due to huge competition.

What's the point, from Asus' perspective here? Only 3.4 million Android Tablets have been sold so far. By comparison, 34.8 million iPads have now been sold, so what kind of ROI is that?
"We are going to continue to work with them to make sure they understand the reality of the Internet. A lot of these people don't have Ph.Ds, and they don't have a degree in computer science." -- RIM co-CEO Michael Lazaridis
