Apple's iPhone 4S sizzles in its first few days of availability

Critics, analysts, and some iFans were initially disappointed when the iPhone 4S was announced earlier this month, but the buying public didn't seem to be bothered by the "warmed over iPhone 4" when it was officially made available this past Friday. After seeing initial pre-orders top one million units, Apple announced today that it sold over four million iPhone 4Ses over the weekend.

For comparison, Apple sold 1.7 million units of the iPhone 4 during its first three days of availbility.

“iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than four million sold in its first weekend—the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “iPhone 4S is a hit with customers around the world, and together with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the best iPhone ever.”

The iPhone 4S features an 800MHz dual-core A5 processor, 8MP rear camera, dual-mode CDMA/GSM network compatibility, and Siri voice recognition technology. Prices range from $199 for the 16GB iPhone 4S to $399 for the 64GB model with a two-year contract.

Tony the average person is a techo-retard and cares more about fitting into popular culture than actually reseaching a product. Anyone that took the time to investigate Apple, would easily find something they object about... either on moral grounds, technical limitations, the Apple screw me policy or innovation inhibitor(yes thats what a patent troll does). Your hard-on for Apple is making you look like a fool.

I wouldn't put it quite like that. They are not necessarily techno-retards, they just don't care about the technical aspects as much as you and others seem to. They are also in the majoriy here. The fact is that it does what they need it to do in a way that is convenient, so what is wrong with that? They have other options, but they choose iPhone for a reason, and it's very patronising to say that you're right and they are wrong. That so many people on here fail to realise this simple fact, is testament to why none of you should be running a tech company selling to consumers.

I seriously doubt that anybody considers the moral arguments for or against buying a phone (FYI Foxconn make devices for most of the tech industry also, so thi is a hard area to navigate, and the rare mineral used to make all phones vibrate causes vast hardship for many in teh areas in which it is mined) and what technical limitations are there on a 4S, pray tell? Most developers will be developing for it on a locked standard platform, so the software will be better optimised. This is not supposition, this is fact if you look at both App stores as they currently stand.
