has made us want to be connected with the people we love and the world around us while we're on the go no matter where we are. As these connections and conveniences become more important, so do more intuitive in-car infotainment systems, which is why Cadillac is unveiling the CUE.
Cadillac CUE, which stands for Cadillac User Experience, is an in-car system that offers information and entertainment data at the touch of a button, much like
and MyFord Touch.
CUE is a customizable system that can range from beginner to the "super user," and offers information and entertainment through the use of up to 10 Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices, MP3 players, USBs, SD cards and other mobile devices.
"CUE doesn't replace your smartphone or
," said Micky Bly, executive director of Global Electric System, Infotainment and Electrification. "Rather it allows consumers to securely store those mobile devices while channeling the information on those devices, along with your navigation tools, weather maps with Doppler radar, AM/FM and XM radio, instant messages and emails, through a central portal in your Cadillac, keeping hands on the wheel and eyes on the road."

The CUE system features an 8-inch LCD touchscreen, natural
for voice commands, multi-touch hand gestures for easier scrolling and zooming, haptic feedback to let the driver know that the system acknowledged a command, a 12.3-inch LCD reconfigurable gauge cluster for revealing traditional vehicle data, only four buttons for initiating certain commands or navigating CUE, and the Linux operating system and ARM 11 3-core processor.
All controls can be found in the steering wheel, which has a five-way controller on the right for volume control, favorites and cluster display while a five-way controller on the left takes care of voice recognition, phone hang-up, heated steering wheel and cruise control.
CUE also offers some handy extras, such as storing the driver's frequently used functions as well as "favorites" when it comes to music, addresses, phone numbers, etc. In addition, OnStar features are available through CUE including Turn-by-Turn navigation, Automatic Crash Notification, hands-free calling and security and connectivity services.
"CUE is a very elegant in-vehicle hub of all the information and entertainment in your life," said Dave Lyon, executive director of Cadillac Interior Design. "Vibrant colors, a piano black face plate, precision-milled buttons, intuitive touchscreen placement and sculpted front console provide a spacious, fashion-forward cabin."
CUE will be available in 2012 in the Cadillac XTS and ATS luxury sedans as well as the SRX luxury crossover.

yeah after watching the video, I'm struck by how much complex hands-on activity is required... especially for a system with voice activation!

Who says it's required? It's a demo to show all of the gestures and menu settings. Plus, who is going to remember 5,000 commands to do something like change which shortcuts you want to rearrange.
