HTC's Sensation XL ships with urBeats headphones
When HTC announced a
deal with Beats Electronics
, we knew it wouldn't be long before branded smartphones would start hitting the market. First up was the
with its 1.5GHz processor.
Now we have the Sensation XL which was just announced today. The Sensation XL obviously has Beats Audio integration along with a massive 4.7" display (
says that the screen resolution is still 800x480). The smartphone is 9.9mm thick, features an aluminum body, 16GB of internal storage, 8MP rear camera (f/2.2, 28mm, dual-LED flash) 1600 mAh battery, and packs in a 1.5GHz single-core processor (Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon). The Sensation XL is running Android 2.3 with
HTC Sense 3.5
The Sensation XL will also ship with a pair of urBeats headphones.
“With Beats Audio, the HTC Sensation XL continues HTC’s commitment of delivering the best audio possible on your phone whether you’re listening to music, watching a movie or playing a game,” said HTC CEO Peter Chou. “This is an amazing example of why our partnership with Beats makes so much sense for customers today and into the future.”
In other HTC news, the company announced that third quarter revenue jumped 79 percent to $4.4 billion USD while net income rose 68 percent to $612 million USD.

RE: screen tooooooo biiggggggg

True, but most people also view a monitor from a considerably further than a smartphone. I hold my phone about 15" from my eyes most of the time, and closer to 8-9" if I'm trying to read a web page. My monitors are 27" from my eyes when I'm sitting at my desk. The pixel pitch of my monitor is 0.28mm, so each pixel subtends 1.4 arcminutes. The pixel pitch of this 800x480 screen is 0.127mm, but at 9" from my eyes that's 1.9 arcminutes per pixel, actually larger than my 22" 1680x1050 monitor. Even at 12" it's only the same as my monitor.
The angular size of the pixels in cell phones is actually pretty close to the size of pixels in monitors at the distances they're used at, and people have been complaining about how display resolution hasn't been increasing with the move to 1080p panels in big 22" and 24" monitors for awhile now. I think a move to a higher res display in a 4.7" screen is pretty appropriate, and would make surfing the web easier on websites that don't rescale well and flow off the screen at 800x480 in landscape.
