Samsung's latest smartphone is a specs monster
Samsung offered a
of its upcoming Google "flagship" smartphone earlier this week. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus (previously known as the Nexus Prime) will be the standard bearer for Google's Ice Cream Sandwich mobile operating system.

1GB of RAM
32GB of built-in storage
5-megapixel camera on the back, 1.3-megapixel in the front
1080p HD video capture support
LTE/HSPA depending on carrier
1,750 mAh battery

I don't get the drive to have such high MP counts in a phone, anyway. The lenses aren't high quality enough to approach even a good P&S camera, and the extra pixel density just hurts low light performance even with a good microlensing system.
Even then the extra pixels might be a benefit if the majority of people if they kept their images at the original size used high quality compression, but the vast majority of people aren't using a camera phone for serious photography. Once the image is resized and compressed for upload so that you don't have to send 3MB for each image, the benefit evaporates. Having a lower resolution sensor of the same size and with the same glass will often give you a better image if you have to reach a certain filesize for upload.

Bingo! Give this man a star. Often the higher MP makes people feel happy that they are getting the best camera mp... regardless of how it looks. I have seen reviews on this site and other tech sites showing that on such a small CMOS and as you said not the best lenses, the noise level is through the roof. Good post!

Exactly... A camera in a phone is nice to have, but any spec over 1-2megapixels is just fluff.
