AT&T announces three 4G-ready Mango smartphones

Microsoft is looking to make some big waves in the smartphone market with the latest incarnation of its Windows Phone mobile operating system. While Windows Phone 7 is currently lagging far behind market leaders Android and iOS in smartphone OS market share, Microsoft is hoping that Windows Phone 7.5 "Mango" and a partnership with Nokia will bolster its fortunes in the sector.

AT&T is onboard to help “spread the good word" courtesy of three new smartphones that will feature Mango. The first new model is the Samsung Focus S. The smartphone features a 4.3" Super AMOLED Plus display, 1.4GHz processor, 1.3mp front-facing camera, and an 8mp rear camera. The Focus S just 8.55mm thick.

The next new Mango entry from AT&T also comes courtesy of Samsung. The Focus Flash makes uses of a 3.7" Super AMOLED display. Like the Focus S, it features a 1.4GHz processor, but it makes do with a 5mp rear camera. AT&T doesn't mention the resolution of the front-facing camera, so we're guessing that it's lower than the 1.3mp of the Focus S (or else they would have mentioned it).

The last new model is the HTC Titan. The new smartphone lives up to its name with a massive 4.7" display -- it also packs a 1.5GHz processor onboard along with an 8mp rear camera with dual-LED flash.

All three new phones operate on AT&T's "4G" wireless network and will be available this fall.

“Our customers love Windows Phones which is why we’ve sold more of them than anyone else,” said Jeff Bradley, SVP of Devices for AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “We’re taking our leadership to a whole new level by getting the Mango update to all existing customers and rolling out awesome new Windows Phones.”

AT&T also announced that it would be making the Mango update available to HTC HD7S, HTC Surround, LG Quantum, and Samsung Focus.

I have been a VZW customer since they were Bell Atlantic Mobile (and used to work for VZW for many years in the stores and in corporate) and they are always the absolute worst at getting good hardware on the market. I'm not saying they have no good phones out, but usually the exclusive handsets other carriers get are way better than the ones verizon gets. Verizon always lags behind and plays catchup with the phones. They even had a chance to be the original iPhone carrier, but declined based on some of apples control demands... they of course have now bowed down to their apple overlords and let them do as they please, and I think having android and the iPhone has made them feel they have covered enough of the market wants to not care too much about Win7 phone. I also think Microsoft's marketing of Win7 phone has been horrible.

Apple does commercials showing the phone doing the things it does well, Microsoft should really do the same thing. Show the device in action, doing things well. Not stupid gimick commercials showing how people use "other" phones. Not to mention the Win7 phone commercials have dried up and are never on anymore.
