HP TouchPad
Combining Staples discounts will get you a 16GB HP TouchPad for $350

HP's webOS 3-based TouchPad has been on the market for only a few weeks, but you can already find the 9.7" tablet for much less than MSRP. Members over at Slickdeals are reporting that both HP's online and store and OfficeMax will be selling the 16GB and 32GB versions of the tablet for $399 and $499 respectively from August 5 through August 7 -- this marks a $100 price cut from the original MSRPs.

If $100 isn't enough of a price drop for you, Staples currently has an even hotter deal. They currently have an instant discount of $50 off 16GB and 32GB TouchPads. They also have an additional $100 off coupon (in-store only) which lasts until August 7. That means that you could get a 16GB TouchPad for $350 or a 32GB version for $450.

HP's TouchPad got off to a rocky start with reviewers, as they complained about a lack of apps and bugs/performance issues that cropped up with the latest iteration of webOS. Reviewers also didn't have many kind words to say about the build quality and heft of HP's latest tablet entry.

HP has addressed most of the bugs with the webOS 3.0.2 update, but those wanting a more svelte webOS-based tablet will have to wait until the next generation.

As polished as the Playbook ? Ha! Have you ever used the Playbook, let alone owned one ? I assume not, because it is STILL buggy as hell 4 months after release! I made the mistake of buying the Playbook on launch day and sold it about a month ago because RIM had done nothing to improve it, the app selection sucked, and about the only thing good about it were the cameras (which you still can't even use for Skype).

I tried the Asus Transformer for a short period, but the lack of multitasking bothered me plus it, too, was pretty buggy as well (lots of freezing issues). I traded that in for an HP TouchPad as I've always liked webOS, so I wanted to give it a shot. It's definitely a lot better than the Playbook. Web browsing is equal (then again, so is Android) to the Playbook, the TouchPad already has more and better apps, it multitasks better, and I don't know where you're getting your info from, but the TouchPad is nowhere near slow. One of the great things about webOS is the Homebrew community which makes it very easy to load on custom software, patches, and kernels.

The Playbook is at the bottom of the heap as far as I'm concerned. I've only had the TouchPad for a few days, but I am enjoying it so far. Oh, and inductive charging = win.

I dunno what magic Touchpad did you get but my Playbook is significantly faster, especially in web browsing, I hate constant delays and freezes when Touchpad browses heavy web sites, while Playbook flies through them like a freakin' rocket. And there are no apps for Touchpad since it's been released way later than Playbook, so good luck with that straw man. Your multitasking argument is funny too since there can't be better mutitasking than on a Playbook by definition. It's as good as technically possible with QNX and RIM GUI shell on top.

And Touchpad and iPad are so huge and heavy and inconvenient conmpared to 7" Playbook, I can't believe people are that dumb to suffer their weight and excessive size. I understand iPad 'cause there are gazillions of fart app lovers, but Touchpad? Excuse me? No fart apps, nothing but the slow OS, ugly slow browser and huge size and weight compared to really portable and light Playbook. I don't get it at the moment. Will try Touchpad later again but for now it's a real dud, not a tablet. A pain to use compared to my playbook.

"It's okay. The scenarios aren't that clear. But it's good looking. [Steve Jobs] does good design, and [the iPad] is absolutely a good example of that." -- Bill Gates on the Apple iPad
