"Assistant" is expected to be integrated into iOS 5 for its fall 2011 release

As a result of Apple's purchase of Siri in 2010 and recent partnership with computer software technology corporation Nuance Communications, Apple will be releasing a voice navigation feature according to 9 to 5 Mac.

Android has had Apple's iOS beat in regards to voice recognition technology, and while there is Nuance voices in Apple's OS X Lion and Nuance speech-to-text capabilities in Apple's internal settings modules, there was no mention of a native iOS voice recognition technology for iOS 5 during WWDC.

But now, it looks like Apple is creating a feature called "Assistant," which is expected to be integrated into iOS 5 for its fall 2011 release. An Apple iPhone test unit reveled Apple's new endeavor, which is currently in a testing phase.

Assistant, of course, utilizes a user's voice input to navigate and deliver information as a personal assistant, but that's not all it does. Additionally, Assistant will securely take the user's information such as music, location, contact info, etc. to better fulfill the user's request. For instance, the user could say "setup coffee with Alex," and with the user's contacts and location, Assistant could locate a coffee shop and send the information to Alex. Or if a movie with Alex was requested, Assistant could offer movie tickets to local theaters.

Assistant will be fully integrated into the operating system, and speech data will be crowd-sourced. Users will be able to choose to send data to Apple so the service can be improved. In addition, Assistant will be able to talk back to users.

While not all Apple experiments become available to users, Assistant is rumored to be part of the iOS 5 release in fall. It's also rumored to be an iPhone 5 exclusive, making it unavailable to the iPhone 4 or 3GS until later.

You'll have to blame the commercial spammers... the content filters are super aggressive now as a result.

Good thought but I think that would have limited returns on spammers to post that way but benefits to the members here.

I would hope most would identify it as spam (Wishful thinking) and not type it in and in that format it has zero relevance to a search engine so no link building. They might get a few but not nearly as many if it was a complete URL that gets Auto URL'd in the process of the post.

What I think needs to occur is massive floods to sites that spam disrupting their business flow making it negatively impact their business hoping they will re-think their advertising methods but most of the spam is from junk sites anyhow.

BTW I highly suggest anyone who gets the Nigerian e-mail scam to spoof reply multiple times with fictitious information. Its fun to waste their time on dead end leads. I should write an app that floods their mailbox with numerous false leads wasting their time to the point where it takes them forever to find the few people too dumb to know its a scam.
