Our friends over at Hot Hardware noticed that AT&T is now selling the refurbished iPhone 3GS 8GB for a measly $9 with a new two-year contract. For those of you looking to score a decent smartphone at a low price, the iPhone 3GS is nice pick if you just have to stay in the Apple family. 

However, keep in mind a couple of points: 

1. AT&T is limiting customers to five of the $9 iPhone 3GS smartphones per household
2. The iPhone 3GS is over two years old, which is quite elderly in the realm of smartphones
3. Retailers like Amazon offer some great pricing on new Android, Windows Phone 7, and webOS  smartphones (starting at a penny) with new contracts
4. While it's nice to get a smartphone for a low, low entry price, you should really be looking at the cost of the minutes/data plan over the course of the two-year contract as well
