Google has reported that over 1 billion items have been shared daily on Google+, showing that users are not only signing up for the service, but using it daily as well
Earlier this week, Ancestry.com's Paul Allen predicted that Google+ would hit 10 million users on Monday, then possibly 20 million users by this weekend. The weekend is less than 24 hours away, and it turns out that his estimates weren't exact, but Google+ did end up achieving 10 million users this week.
Google CEO Larry Page announced the 10 million mark yesterday during the company's second quarter earnings call. He also praised the new service, saying that it is a "clean and easy" product to use and imitates the way real humans interact.
"I'm super excited about the response to Google+, which lets you share just like in real life," said Page.
In addition to 10 million users, Google has reported that over 1 billion items have been shared daily on Google+, showing that users are not only signing up for the service but using it daily as well. Page attributes the large amount of activity to the addition of the +1 button both on and off Google+ (users can +1 websites on Google search when signed into Google+). According to Page, the +1 feature is being used around 2.3 billion times per day.
"We want to make products that everybody uses twice a day, like their toothbrush," said Page. "We certainly think about Plus that way, and just generally having a shared identity experience across Google and its products."
Google+ launched on June 28 and is currently in an invite-only field testing phase. Page is the second-most followed person on Google+, while Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg grabs the No. 1 spot.
