Customers of Cox Communications Cable TV service may have TiVo as an option
A recent post on Slashdot has brought attention to a survey request apparently sent to a customer by Cox Communications which is a digital cable, phone, and broadband internet provider in select markets. The survey begins by asking the participant a few questions about their current television services and eventually leads into a question regarding DVR products and services and the participants preferences: As you may or may not know, Cox offers DVR service. The DVR is built
into the Cox digital receiver box and is operated using a Cox digital
service remote control. While Cox currently offers its own DVR service,
the Cox DVR may soon be powered by TiVo, and include the features that
TiVo owners have come to expect. If Cox were to offer digital cable
service with a TiVo branded DVR for about the same price as your
satellite service provider charges for DVR service, how likely would
you be to switch from satellite TV to Cox cable that featured this TiVo
branded DVR service?
After reading this question it is no secret that Cox Communications is considering TiVo as an option or alternative for DVR service aside from its current Motorola-based digital DVR cable box. From reading comments on the TiVo Community message boards, many posters are looking forward to the switch to a TiVo-based DVR system.
