Galaxy Tab 10.1

Asus Eee Pad 32GB Transformer
Honeycomb tablets finally deliver

It happened a week later than we originally expected, but the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is now widely available to purchase in Best Buy stores across America, as well as the obligatory online stores (Amazon, New Egg, et al).

The 10.1-inch, Android Honeycomb 3.1-based tablet has garnered positive reviews, thanks to its slim design, light weight, and commendable battery life — looking like a valid challenger to the iPad's tablet crown.

Powered by a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, the Tab 10.1 comes in 16GB and 32GB iterations, priced at $499 and $599 respectively. Currently, Wi-Fi-only models are all that are available, although an HSPA+ version will be available soon for a $130 premium.

DVD Drive

I don't know about the rest of you, but I will be glad when someone decides to put a slot load DVD drive in one of these tablet thingies. They're all basically smart phones with giant screens so there should be plenty of space inside to accommodate it. Once someone integrates this feature, I'll be all over a tablet. Just my $.02!

Apparently thinness is more important than useful features, I think the original Tab is too basic given it only has one micro SD card slot when I think it should have onboard USB, full size SD slot, hdmi etc. but the new Tab is even worse (not even micro SD expansion) and is getting all the more praise for that.

It's certainly not getting more praise for missing a SD slot. It's been marked down in many reviews because of this. What annoys me though, is that in other reivews of the iPad it's perfectly fine that it has no SD slot, but when other tablets dont have one they're instantly marked down by the same reviewers. No matter how you look at that it's not fair.

Asking for a DVD drive is simply retarded though.

Yeah and while they're at it, they need to stick a VHS and cassette player in it too. I'd also like VGA output. I'm mever getting one of these until it has this stuff.

But really... What century are we living in again? If you actually need a DVD drive... theres these things called laptops.
