Does this mean I loose my geek license?

Don't get me wrong, I think they're cool and all but I just can't justify the kind of money they want for any of these tablets and figure out how to get the kind of use out of it that justifies that price.

What I'd like to see is something more along the lines of a dock like the new AT&T phone, or even better like the Transformer from Asus. How about you lust let me plug my phone into a bigger screen+battery when I want a tablet experience. That way I already have all the guts and the paid 3G/4G data plan, I'm just using a bigger screen.

You could even still let the screen plug into the keyboard dock to get the best of all worlds, but I'm still only using one device.

I'm personally thinking of picking up a 16GB ASUS Transformer because it's so dirt cheap (relatively speaking). I've got about $100 in credit card rewards saved up and about $160 in Staples Rewards from in-store promotions and ink recycling. Once Staples gets it in stock, I'm gonna bite the bullet.

I got the wife a Nook and loaded it with a rooted version of Froyo (after first giving the pre-release Honeycomb a spin). She uses it, so it was well worth the $250.
Can't see spending more than that though until they advance a bit further past what my phone already does.
I bought a netbook for myself for less money than most tablets and I use it a lot more then I ever used my last personal laptop.

I bought a Nook Color, rooted, and the thing is wonderful as a tablet. In a pinch I can share the connection from my DInc to it, and that's all I've ever needed it to do... with Froyo or CM7 on it, the thing really is a good little, cheap tablet.
