Apple continues its upwards march in the consumer electronics business

It's should come as no surprise that Apple's latest earnings announcement once again exceeded all expectations. Apple has been on a roll quarter after quarter, and its Q2 earnings were no exception.

The company today announced record fiscal Q2 revenue of $24.67 billion USD and a net profit of $5.99 billion USD. Those numbers are far ahead of Q2 2010 when Apple reported revenue of $13.5 billion USD and net profit of $3.07 billion USD.

Apple witnessed a 28 percent year-over-year growth in Mac sales to 3.76 million units while iPhone sales grew 113 percent to 18.65 million units during the quarter. Apple's newest booming business sector, the iPad, had sales of 4.69 million units.

If there was a lone cloud in Apple's sunny report, it was the fact that iPod sales were down 17 percent to 9.02 million units compared to last year.

“With quarterly revenue growth of 83 percent and profit growth of 95 percent, we’re firing on all cylinders,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs. “We will continue to innovate on all fronts throughout the remainder of the year.”

Apple's iPhone numbers were no doubt helped by the addition of Verizon as the second carrier in the United States, and Apple's new iPad 2 was launched during the fiscal second quarter.

Apple is rumored to be readying a revamp of its popular iMac family and the next generation iPhone is set to make its debut in September.

No, that would be more like ~35 a minute.

I just did the maths and it turns out an iPhone is sold every half second.

I love you guys - the whole world is out of step except you :)

Millions of very happy and satisfied iPhone customers, people still queuing for iPads weeks after it was released and how is that interpreted? Tens of millions of people have somehow been fooled, those products can't really be that popular for good or material reasons, it has to some sort of con or fluke, or perhaps ghastly mistake.

I remember a slogan from back in the sixties that would suit you guys:

"Do not adjust your head - there is a fault in reality"

I just find it staggering that such deep delusional beliefs, so at odds with all available evidence, can be sustained for so long. There must be something very threatening about how the real world is panning out.

You have my sympathy :)

You have to remember that it's pretty much a fact 1 in 3 people are mentally retarded. So i wouldn't be surprised if this Apple trend continues, as it's still nowhere near 1/3 people owning an Apple product. We all know which side you fit into Tony.

At the same time the other 2/3 of people are becoming more and more aware of how much a disgusting company Apple and it's messiah Jobs are. No matter what site you go to (apart from any Apple fan site of course) you will see more and more bad comments about Apple.

Do you realise what an adolescent dick you sound when you talk about one in three people being mentally retarded?

Do you really believe such tosh?

Spouting weird defensive gibberish won't change the real world, or explain it.

1 in 3 people aren't retarded, its a slang term in use there. The reality is that 1 in 3 are really, really stupid . You know it, we all know it, and we all deal with them on a daily basis.

Just think how stupid the average person is... Now think, half of everyone is dumber than that guy. - George Carlin.

Every half second someone buys a piece of hardware that tracks their every move and stores the information for up to a year. I guess that old commercial about Apple destroying Big Brother back in the 80s was actually about them destroying it and taking its place.
