Apple's App Store received an Atari's Greatest Hits app that features 100 of Atari's most popular games

Gamers who appreciate old school video/arcade games will be happy to hear that Apple now has an Atari app that features classics like Centipede and Breakout.

Atari was first founded in 1972 as Atari Inc., and was later divided into Atari Corporation and Atari Games in 1984. In 1998, Atari Interactive was made when Hasbro Interactive acquired all Atari Corporation properties. Atari specializes in consumer electronics, especially video game systems and arcade games.

Now, as of today, Apple's App Store received an Atari's Greatest Hits app that features 100 of Atari's most popular games. The app features 92 titles from the Atari 2600 and 18 Atari Arcade games. Atari's Greatest Hits is a free universal app that comes with a free version of Pong to get you started, and costs $.99 for each additional 4-pack of games. An in-app purchase of $14.99 will unlock all 99 games.

All 100 games have been updated to work with touchscreen controls on the iOS platform. Some of the games even have Bluetooth multiplayer capabilities for head-to-head competition with others. Additional features include black and white to color switches and control methods that allow the user to select a faux Atari console interface.

The only downfall is that Activision's Atari games such as Pitfall and River Raid didn't make the cut. Others not on the list are E.T. and Pac-Man.

The Atari Greatest Hits App is now available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and can be found here.
