Some questionable images of an
have hit the web, leaving tech sites and consumers wondering if they are leaked photos of an iPod touch with a capacitive home button.
Apple's iPod touch, which is a personal digital assistant, portable media player and Wi-Fi mobile platform, was first introduced in 2007. As of September 2009, Apple sold over 45 million of these devices. So far, four generations of the iPod touch have been released, each with software updates and added features such as a 0.7 megapixel fixed focus camera.
The physical home button has been a staple in the iPod touch design throughout all four generations, but these new pictures show otherwise.
, which look like blurry camera photos, show an iPod touch with what may be a non-physical home button. It also has a DVT-1 badge, 128 GB of memory, an aluminum back that resembles the description of the new iPhone 5's back, and is marked model MC550LL.
In addition, the photos indicate that the touch is running firmware 4.2.1MC14, which is an older version. The fact that it is running older firmware has lead many to believe that this model has been sitting around for quite some time, and was only used as a test subject.
While a capacitive home button may decrease wear and tear with use on the iPod touch, it's unclear if Apple plans to make this feature a reality, or if these pictures are even leaked images of such a feature. But it doesn't seem completely out of the question since Apple is making changes to its other iPod products, such as
adding a camera to the iPod nano
once again while keeping the body slimmer and smaller body.

I'm not sure why I've been rated down for providing a correction here to the original article (there is no such thing as 4.2.1MC14).

Don't try and figure out the ratings system at DT...I learned that a while back. I honestly believe some people just randomly rate up or down for just a single word they like or dislike...very odd bunch some folks.
