The wait for iPhone users is finally over: an
untethered jailbreak for iOS version 4.3.1 is
now available from the iPhone Dev Team, almost three years to the day after
the first version of PwnageTool was released for 1.1.4.
While the
jailbreak, which comes from "antid0te" developer Stefan
"i0n1c" Esser, works on all 4.3.1 capable devices --
the iPhone3GS, iPhone4 (GSM), iPod touch 3G, iPod touch
4G, iPad, AppleTV 2G -- it will not function with the iPad 2.
"The
reason the untether won’t work as-is on the iPad2 is that it requires a bootrom
or iBoot-level exploit to install, and the iPad2 is not susceptible to either
the limera1n or SHAtter bootrom exploits," Dev-Team Blog explains.
One
additional warning: ultrasn0w users are being cautioned not to update yet,
because ultrasn0w needs to be updated to fix some incompatibilities with FW
4.3.1.
The Dev
Team recommends using its redsn0w to implement the untethered exploit, because
it works on both Mac and Windows. IClarified has all the
required links and tutorials for
first-time jailbreakers.
