Dell is becoming quite a force to be reckoned with in the LCD monitor market
Dell showed off its answer to Apple's 30" LCD at CES and wows the crowds with features not found elsewhere. Called the 3007WFP, Dell's answer to Apple's 30" not only delivers in features and performance, it comes in $300 less than Apple's best offering.
At first glance, the two seem to be identical, offering the same 2560x1600 resolution. However, examining the specs more closely reveals that Dell has not only matched its competitor, it has exceeded Apple and offers customers better performance for less money. To compare:
178 degree viewing angle on the Dell vs. 170 on the Apple
700:1 contrast ratio on the Dell vs. 400:1 on the Apple
300 cd/m2 light output on the Dell vs. 270 cd/m2 on the Apple
14ms pixel response time on the Dell vs. 16ms on the Apple
Dell's 3007WFP also offers 9-in-2 media card slots to accept anything from CompactFlash to MemoryStick and SD cards. Finally for those concerned with appearance, the 3007WFP is no slouch on looks either -- although this department remains up to the tastes of the customer.

One thing the Dell can't match ...

Colour accuracy. Apple's monitor design team have done their very best to ensure the big LCDs are as colour-accurate as possible. Whilst it is completely impossible for any LCD to show true black (and thus, any low-intensity colour will be wrong), Apple have tweaked the array's firmware and put a heavy sheet of museum-grade optical crystal in front, and applied a layer of blooming (such as you'd see in a camera lens) to correct colour.
Dell's offering has none of this.
If you're doing pro-level image retouching work -- which is a market Apple still commands -- then you will still want to stick to a CRT. But if you have to go flat, and you want accurate, you've two choices -- Apple, or AG Neovo.
For my money, that tighter colour gamut on the Apple Cinema HD 30" is more than worth the extra money, and then some.

On the contrary. Apple's "accuracy" is a bit of a farce because their units do not even contain a DSP with any sort of color correction-- everything is done via software. Dell uses very high quality Genesis controllers in their displays, and hence the reason why Dell can do 4 different inputs over analog (or digital) and still have better color curves than Apple without software.
