Instant Previews will find what you want faster on mobile devices
Google has announced that it has a new Instant
Previews service for Android and iOS devices that is available right now.
As of now, Instant
Previews are available on Android 2.2 and higher devices and on
iOS 4.0 and higher devices. The new service on the mobile device allows the
user to run searches on Google and then hit the magnifying glass next to the
results to see a quick preview of the content at the link to save time and find
exactly what they need the first time out.
Users have to go to the Google website to use the
Instant Previews function. Google software engineer Brian Ngo told eWeek,
"Perhaps you're looking for an article, a step-by-step instructions list,
or a product comparison chart -- with Instant Previews, you can easily spot
pages with the right content without having to navigate back and forth between
Websites and search results."
Google reckons that the Instant Previews, which is
an offshoot of the Google instant search tech, will let users that have an idea
of what content they are looking to reach that content faster.
The Google
Mobile Blog describes the service, "For example, if you’re
looking for a webpage that has both photos and descriptions, you can use
Instant Previews to quickly identify these pages by navigating across the
visual search results with a few swipes of your finger. Or perhaps you’re
looking for an article, a step-by-step instructions list, or a product
comparison chart—with Instant Previews, you can easily spot pages with the
right content without having to navigate back and forth between websites and
search results. And when the mobile version of a website is available, we’ll
show you a preview of the mobile page."
"It looks like the iPhone 4 might be their Vista, and I'm okay with that." -- Microsoft COO Kevin Turner
