New iPhone will reportedly feature aluminum casing and redesigned antenna

Lump this one squarely in the rumor column: The upcoming iPhone 5 will eschew the glass back casing of the iPhone 4 for aluminum back casing.

At least that's the word from Macotakara, which Macrumors picked up. "Decision to design similar to iPod touch instead of using glass is supposed that Apple seems to stop problems which are told widely damages from scratching, difficulties of painting white and weight of glass," reads the Chinese-to-English translation.

Also according to the report, the antenna will be redesigned for seemingly no reason at all (that's sarcasm), meaning iPhone users will have to learn a whole new way to hold the phone.

The iPhone 5 is also reported to sport the new A5 processor that Apple recently unveiled in its forthcoming iPad 2. If Apple follows its usual release schedule, the new iPhone should be announced this summer.

Never had a problem...

To this day, I have never had a problem with my iPhone 4 - best phone I've ever had. Antenna Gate is supposed to be a big problem, I should have experienced it right? Am I one of the "lucky" ones?

And most users likely didn't have problems, but it's awful 'head in the sand' to say that everyone's experience was flawless. The real issue is the way apple responds when people have problems, blame the user/flat out denial.

I really want to agree, but I can't.

I had the old clip-on shuffles (my first owned Apple product if that gives any idea to how much I like Apple) and the OS screwed up.

That's when I found out you had to make an appointment in the store with a "genius", despite the store not being busy - what kind of genius do they have working that can't use out-of-order processing? Anyhow, the Shuffle was acting up and he actually did kindly restore it, despite my efforts. Of course the problem was probably because it was syncing through USB with a Windows machine.

My only question is, if there was nothing wrong with the iphone 4 antenna, why then did they have to re-design it? Steve Vader said it was why the change??

Also, I heard that the iphone 6 will magically cure cancer, and that's what Steve's waiting more silly doctors, with thier non-magical healing!!

Did you use the bumper?

The problem was when you didn't use the bumper because your bare hand would act as a conductor and bridge the two antennas - causing all sorts of signal noise and other problems. The bumper was Apple's "fix" to the antenna problem because rubber is an insulator.

You just didn't hold it the wrong way at the wrong time. It isn't an issue of a faulty unit, all do this. Just find somewhere with 1-2 bars of reception and put your finger over the lower left black band and wait 15 seconds or so. The bars will go away and you will lose service or switch from 3G to Edge.
