Nintendo 3DS will be released in the U.S. in late March

Nintendo announced today that its 3DS system will be in stores March 27 of this year, and will cost $249.99.

The Nintendo 3DS is a portable game console that is capable of producing 3D effects through the use of autostereoscopy. Autostereoscopy allows a user to experience 3D effects without glasses or headgear.

The Nintendo 3DS was first announced on March 23, 2010, and was first seen on June 15 at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo. The system will feature backward compatibility with Nintendo DS series software, which includes the Nintendo DSi software.

According to Gamasutra, Nintendo has confirmed 30 games that will be available for the launch of the 3DS. Twenty-five of these games have been confirmed for the United States so far, including Nintendogs & Cats, Steel Diver, Pilotwings Resort and Super Street Fighter IV 3D.

Nintendo also noted that 3DS versions of Paper Mario, Mario Kart, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time are in development.

The new system will be released February 26 in Japan and March 27 in the United States.

RE: $250 is too expensive...

What's the bill of materials for a copy of Windows 7? Funny how no one here drones on about that? A copy should cost, what, $2?

There's more to a product than bill of materials, before getting into the simple economic fact that something is worth whatever people are willing to pay for it. I really don't know what don't get about that. When you whine about it, all you do is sound like you want one really, but can't afford it.

This is the first 3D mobile device, that is supposed to work very well, and it's the next device in a successfully line-up.

Nintendo could probably charge even more for it and still sell plenty. You might think people are stupid for paying that much for one, but I bet that you would like to own one really, if you are honest. I know that I do (would be my first mobile Nintendo purchase, btw) but I'm going to have to wait for the price to drop, as I can't (on a personal level) justify spending that much. Sadly for me, a lot of other people will however. That's the way it goes sometimes. I'm not holding my breath for a price drop tho, it's probably going to be a while.
