Nintendo 3DS will be released in the U.S. in late March

Nintendo announced today that its 3DS system will be in stores March 27 of this year, and will cost $249.99.

The Nintendo 3DS is a portable game console that is capable of producing 3D effects through the use of autostereoscopy. Autostereoscopy allows a user to experience 3D effects without glasses or headgear.

The Nintendo 3DS was first announced on March 23, 2010, and was first seen on June 15 at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo. The system will feature backward compatibility with Nintendo DS series software, which includes the Nintendo DSi software.

According to Gamasutra, Nintendo has confirmed 30 games that will be available for the launch of the 3DS. Twenty-five of these games have been confirmed for the United States so far, including Nintendogs & Cats, Steel Diver, Pilotwings Resort and Super Street Fighter IV 3D.

Nintendo also noted that 3DS versions of Paper Mario, Mario Kart, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time are in development.

The new system will be released February 26 in Japan and March 27 in the United States.

I'm with Ketchup on this. You're comparing this to products in different markets. I wouldn't buy this 3DS though. Real 3D doesn't really seem to offer anything to gameplay IMO, though I've never actually seen a 3DS. I might change my mind after seeing one, but I doubt it.

This price seems too high as well. The original PSP had this very problem. Despite superior hardware the price point was a hard sell to parents buying this for their kids.

That's kinda short sighted there. Of course you don't, you haven't seen any ideas or games developed on a true 3D platform.

It's a new media. If anyone can maximally use something new it's Nintendo.

It took MS and Sony how long to come up with something similar?

Personally I am eager for this to hit. I'm more eager to see a Metroid and Paper Mario for this.... they made great use of 2D and 3D unlike any other game.

I dunno. I've seen the PS3 version of 3D. it's an illusion. it doesn't actually enhance/affect the gameplay in any way. It just adds the semblance of depth.

What a dumb noob, you need to know what a real great use of 2d/3d game is.

noob? Really? Are you 12? Did you get your parent's permission to post that?

If you played those games you would know how they manipulated spacial orientation in a 3D environment.

My guess is that you're one of those kids who thinks that a FPS with high detail is somehow more sophisticated than the original Doom.... when it's nothing but new overlays. Dark Force had more 3D use than many of the current FPSs.

Personally, I haven't had a portable system since the original Gameboy, but I am very interested to see a 3DS Demo unit in person so I can see the 3d for myself.

Until I get some decent demo time, I won't just run and purchase this, but if the 3d is all it should be, I may pick one up. I just hope they can get some 3d movies on there two (I'm not buying a new tv just to watch a couple movies in 3d, but I can justify the $250 3ds price if the 3d looks good enough.

i have seen it demo'd on vid. even on THIS side of a 2-dimensional computer screen, i could see the 3-d effects clearly.

to all you nay-sayers out there, this is going to be HUGE.
