Motorola unveils new gear at CES
Xoom, Cliq 2, Droid Bionic get official
Motorola has used CES to launch new gear for a very long time and this year is no different. Motorola has pulled the wraps off three new gadgets today with
three new smartphones and a new tablet
for geeks to enjoy.
The new tablet is the Motorola Xoom and it will be headed to Verizon Wireless. It has a 10.1-inch screen, a dual-core processor, and a 3G network connection. It runs the
Android 3.0 Honeycomb
operating system specifically for tablet machines. Verizon points out that the device can be upgraded to support 4G LTE connectivity as well. The device plays Flash content, supports 1080p resolution video, and has a front facing 2MP camera with a rear-facing 5MP camera.
It can record video in 720p resolution and the resolution of the 10.1-inch screen is 1280 x 800. The device also has a gyroscope, barometer, e-compass, accelerometer, and adaptive lighting. It will land in Q1 as a 3G/WiFi device with a 4G update coming in Q2.
"Motorola XOOM is a powerful addition to Verizon’s product lineup and builds on our combined leadership with Motorola to deliver innovative mobile devices and service on the Android platform," said Marni Walden, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless. "Motorola XOOM gives consumers complete access and control of their favorite personal content and work files whether through our nationwide 3G network, or through our lightning-fast 4G LTE network as it rolls out around the country."
The first of the new smartphones is the Droid Bionic. It has a dual core 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM inside. The smartphone is a 4G device for LTE networks and support Flash content. The rear-facing camera is an 8MP unit and the screen is a 4.3-inch touch capable unit. The smartphone supports 1080p content, Quick Office, and a lot more.
"DROID BIONIC is the epitome of speed, providing consumers with instantaneous access to their personal and work content, anytime and anyplace," said Alain Mutricy, senior vice president of portfolio and device product management, Motorola Mobility. "By combining such a powerful mobile device with the performance and capabilities of Verizon’s 4G LTE network, we’re empowering consumers to define how they want to live their mobile lifestyles."
The Motorola Cliq 2 is a 3.7-inch touch screen device with Android and a slide-out keypad. It runs a 1GHz processor, has WiFi, and will be able to operate on the
LTE 4G network
Verizon is putting in place in some areas. The device supports Flash content and is DLNA-enabled as well. The phone has a hotspot function for connecting other devices and it will hit Verizon on January 19. Three
other 4G devices
have already surfaced at CES.
"We are excited to build upon the success of the original CLIQ, bringing the powerful combination of Android and social connectivity to our customers," said Paul Cole, vice president, product management, T-Mobile USA. "With the addition of new business-ready features, the Motorola CLIQ 2 offers peace of mind with the ability to balance home and work life."
unveiled a "4G" smart phone
that will run on AT&T's network. The phone, dubbed the Atrix 4G, can only use HSPA+ and is incapable of communicating on AT&T's upcoming true 4G LTE network. An unusual dock accessory will be offered for the phone that transforms it into a smartbook.

RE: Who is Packing What?

This is a typical news headline written in shorthand. The subjects are the "new smartphones" and "tablet", the action is "packing" and the object is "Android". Yes, it could have been written more clearly as:
