Acer's latest tablet will run Android

Late last year, Acer showed off an intriguing dual-screen notebook design called the Iconia. The Iconia features dual 14.1" displays, Core i5 processors, and weighs 6.18-pounds with a 4-cell battery.

Acer is now adding to the Iconia product family with the new Iconia Tab A500. The Iconia Tab A500 will use an unknown version of Google'e Android operating system (but we're betting on Honeycomb). However, this won't be a stock Android experience -- Acer UI 4.5 will be layered on top of the standard Android install.

"Innovation is in our DNA," said Acer VP Campbell Kan.  "We are proud to once again offer users the most advanced technologies.  With the ICONIA Tab A500 supporting 4G LTE, users will be able to wirelessly navigate, download or stream as seamlessly as they do with a wired connection.  This is indeed another step toward a truly mobile Internet experience."

The half-inch-thick tablet will have a 10.1" capacitive touch screen, dual-core 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra s processor, and an HDMI port. In addition, the Iconia Tab A500 will incorporate Verizon LTE mobile broadband support -- Verizon's LTE network launched in the closing weeks of 2010.

We don't have any pictures of the device yet, but we'll get you some this week as we head to the CES show floor.

Can't wait to see/hear about their CES presentation...

Been following all the video and information releases at these sites, but we have yet to see reviews...

Looks neat. I think I'll wait until Honeycomb comes out though. I think Honeycomb support will be key to longterm viability. Put another way, I don't want to be jealous of everyone's new Honeycomb tablets 6 months from now.

I think Notion Ink dropped the ball by waiting so long to get to market.

They tried to differentiate themselves with their redeveloped UI but I think they have just fallen in the trap that many of the device manufacturers do... more is not always better. Give me a pad with stock std Google UI and theat is where I will spend my cash.

Also having to deal with India in the tech space everyday for my job...I do not hold their developers in high regards.... I hope I am proved wrong.

"It's okay. The scenarios aren't that clear. But it's good looking. [Steve Jobs] does good design, and [the iPad] is absolutely a good example of that." -- Bill Gates on the Apple iPad
