RealSSD C400 is the followup to last year's C300

Just over a year ago, Micron announced the world's first native 6Gbps SATA SSD: the RealSSD C300. The drive offered read speeds of 355MB/sec and write speeds of 215MB/sec.

Today, Micron is announcing the follow-up to the C300, and unsurprisingly it's called the RealSSD C400. The C400 SSD series makes use of Micron's new advanced 25 nanometer NAND flash technology and will be available in both 1.8" and 2.5" form-factors in sizes ranging from 64GB to a more capacious 512MB.

As SSD technology continues to mature, it's no surprise that overall performance of C400 is better than its predecessor. Maximum read speeds have now jumped to 415MB/sec while maximum write speeds have been elevated to 260MB/sec.

"SSDs are bringing excitement back into personal computing," said Dean Klein, VP of memory system development at Micron. "Micron is accelerating this enthusiasm with our new RealSSD portfolio, providing even greater performance and higher capacities than our previous generation SSDs."

Micron is currently sampling the RealSSD C400 and regular production will being next month.
